1. CONTROL IMMIGRATION OFFICER (INSPECTORATE), 5 POSTS, REF NO: HRMC 28/15/6
SALARY : A basic salary of R227, 802 to R268, 338 per annum (Level 8). In addition, a
range of competitive benefits are offered.
CENTRE : Head Office, Pretoria, Branch: Immigration Services, Directorate: Special
Investigation and Joint Operation, Sub-Directorate: Special Investigation

REQUIREMENTS : Representivity: Coloured, Indian, White Male /Female candidates are encouraged
to apply. A 3 year Diploma/Degree in Law/Social Science/Policing or a relevant
NQF level 6 qualification in the related field with 2-3 years’ relevant experience
and/or a Grade 12 qualification and 3 years’ relevant experience in an
enforcement environment . A minimum of 2 years’ experience in the Public
Sector. Knowledge and understanding of all Acts and Regulations administered
by the Department. Knowledge and understanding of the Criminal Procedure Act,
International Treaties, Public Service Regulatory Framework and the South
African Constitution. Liaison and Interpersonal skills, customer orientation,
problem solving skills, strong investigative and analytical skills. Planning and
organizing skills, computer literacy, good verbal and written communication skills.
Expected to work irregular hours and under pressure. A valid driver’s licence and
willingness to travel and work irregular hours. The successful candidate will
undergo 6 to 8 weeks training which will include an unarmed combat module.
Military, Police or Prosecution experience will serve as an added advantage.

DUTIES : The successful candidate will be responsible for, amongst others, the following
specific tasks: Investigate syndicates involved in complex crime that involves
smuggling of migrants, human trafficking and illegal mass production of enabling
documentation such as birth certificates, travel documents, permits, VISAS,
Identity Documents, illegal migration facilitated by corruption and theft of face
value documents as well as assisting with very high profile cases and international investigations and prosecutions. Investigate and detect international fugitives from justice who attempt to reside in South Africa. Interview Informants, suspects and witnesses. Coordinate investigation efforts, follow up tasks and
provide information to analysts to identify patterns, series and trends as quick as
possible. Prepare necessary investigative reports and documentation for court cases. Appear and testify in official proceedings. Keep records and background information on criminals. The investigators must frequently interact on a professional basis with other law enforcement officials and state prosecutors both nationally and internationally. Assume a high degree of accountability for delivering the highest quality on immigration crime investigated. Maintain in a state of readiness all technical equipment assigned vehicles. Perform other duties as assigned and required. Must accept scheduled after hours stand by duty every week. Whilst on standby, must be readily available at all times at any hour of the day or night to attend to requests for services on call.
