ENVIRONMENTAL OFFICER REF NO: DMR/15/0085
SALARY : R195 177 per annum Level: 07
CENTRE : Mpumalanga Region, Witbank

REQUIREMENTS : A/ an appropriate three year tertiary qualification in Environmental Sciences or
Environmental Management, and a valid driver’s licence. PLUS the following
competencies, Knowledge of: National Environmental Management Act(NEMA),
National Environmental Management Waste Act (NEMWA), National Water Act
(NWA), Mineral and Petroleum Resource Development Act (MPRDA) and other
legislation (i.e environmental legislations governing the mining environment.
Management and financial provision for rehabilitation purposes, mining
procedures, processes and impacts thereof. Mitigation measures including
rehabilitation and pollution control measures. Skills: Interpretation of legislation,
interpersonal skills, computer skills, conflict resolution skills, ability to work in a
team and independently. Communication: Excellent verbal and written
communication. Creativity: Information evaluation, ability to work in a team. Ability
to analyse problems and recommend corrective measures, ability to interpret
policies and legislation.

DUTIES : Evaluate scoping reports, Environmental Impact Assessment reports, Basic
Assessment reports,. Environmental Management Plans, Closure plans and the
technical and environmental reports. Issue Environemtal Authorizations and
Waste Management licences. Conduct comprehensive environmental inspection
and environmental audits in line with NEMA and related Regulations Regulate the
closure of mine within the stipulated time frames. Identify environmental liabilities
for prospecting and mining operations and insure evaluation of adequacy of
financial provision. Investigate and resolve mine environmental related issues.
Attend to environmental related queries and complaints at the mines, Assist
clients through promotion of administrative justice, environmental enforcement
and investigate illegal mining. Participate in environmental related forums and
meetings.
