Internships in South Africa

Parents and teachers play a critical role in the educational journey of South Africa’s children. When empowered, they can use their agency to shape the education system, and ultimately the learning experience of South African children.

With that in mind, the DG Murray Trust is incubating 2 initiatives focused on building the agency of parents and teachers.

The Parent Empowerment Initiative aims to support parents to:

  • demand quality education for their children and accountability for their learning;
  • build their shared identity as valued and active stakeholders in children’s education; and
  • leverage “ordinary magic” for the benefit of their children.

The Teachers’ Change Agent Network (TeachersCAN) seeks to build an empowered network of young teachers who:

  • are driven by the goal to enable all learners to reach their potential and
  • find a common identity rooted in professionalism, creativity and disruption of the status quo.
