Job Title: News Anchor
Location: Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

Specification
The incumbent would be required to anchor the e.tv news broadcast in adherence to the channel’s vision. To provide input and guidance on stories covered and guests brought in to be interviewed. To drive the channel’s audience by delivering work of a high quality. To promote and represent the e.tv news brand both internally and externally. To participate in pre and post production meetings and provide suggestions on the overall look of the show. To be engaged, opinionated and drive debate on a range of topics. To participate in feedback sessions around audiences and to keep abreast of changes in the media landscape.

Reporting to the Programme Editors, the Key Performance Areas include:

  1. Research
    -Gathering information regarding issues.
    -Determining the angle of story, identifying and minimising gaps within the news story.
    -Planning and executing interviews with newsmakers.
    -Brainstorming the show during pre-production meetings.
    -Offering constructive feedback and ideas for the following day’s broadcast
    -Suggesting guests who offer varied views to topics.

2. Scripting
-Writing scripts for interviews and packages.
-Checking existing scripts for grammatical, factual and stylistic errors.
-Updating scripts and headlines with new information.

3. Interviewing / Presenting
-Reading bulletins to acceptable broadcast standards.
-Moving between hard news and lighter news on social media
-Conducting interviews.
-Forming and expressing opinions based on fact
-Engaging with the e.tv news audience and newsmakers.
-Adlibing rolling news.
-Ensuring smooth flow of bulletin.
-Presenting live shows in the field.
-Adhering to on air style guide.

4. Social Media
-Promoting shows and live news events, in accordance to the organisation’s social media policies.
-Promoting viewer engagement via social media
-Reflecting the comments streaming in to the show
-Keeping abreast of topics that are trending
-Promoting the brand on social media in a positive way that drives viewers

Requirements
A relevant Journalism or Television qualification
