Responsibilities:
Financial Management, Reporting, and Planning
- Work with the CEO on strategy, scenario planning, and long-term projections
- Prepare an annual budget in collaboration with the CEO
- Prepare quarterly management accounts, including financial and narrative information
- Track and comply with grant reporting requirements for funds received from donors
- Work with the CEO and Chief Academic Officer to develop and implement an efficient system for franchisee administrative record-keeping, bookkeeping, and reporting
- Supervise our outsourced accounting service provider (currently House of Growth), which captures information in Xero and runs payroll for the company
- Manage trade payables and invoicing
- Maintain the general ledger and loading payments for release on internet banking
- Manage cash flows and bank accounts, including cash forecasting
- Manage all tax and compliance related matters i.e. CIPC, VAT, PAYE, Income Tax, NPO reporting requirements, Public Benefit Activity tracking and reporting
- Maintain a lean operating cost environment
- Oversee and managing the annual external audit
- Draft annual financial statements
Corporate partnerships
- Plan, develop, and running Earlybird’s strategy for identifying and engaging potential corporate partners (businesses which wish to include our on-site educare offering as part of their employee wellness package)
- ‘Engage’ includes pitching (together with our CEO) our offering at high-level management meetings with partner corporates and going through various costing scenarios with corporate partners, helping to price out services under various conditions
- Maintain a detailed database of (potential) partners and tracking progression of engagement for each relationship
- Ensure you have an up-to-date understanding of the BEE Codes of Good Practice to quantify the BEE opportunities that exist for potential partners; coordinating with Earlybird’s BEE consultants on more technical BEE questions
Governance and Legal
- Ensure the organisation’s compliance with the Companies Act and good corporate governance, procedures and protocols
- Critically reviewing and updating contract templates for service provision to corporate partners as well as franchise agreements
- Liaise with appointed legal firm on all legal matters
- Ensure compliance with existing contracts
- Assist with legal, tax and governance matters in respect of a potential international expansion
Requirements:
- Minimum of three years’ experience in a corporate work environment.
- B.com Accounting degree or equivalent with accounting, articles and CA(SA) a distinct advantage
- Confident speaking with senior executives and government officials
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple and overlapping deadlines almost exclusively on one’s own
- Reliably sets and meets expectations
- Willingness and ability to gain a working knowledge of concepts in the fields of early education, innovative finance, and education technology
- Personable, reliable, organised, motivated by impactful work
- A creative problem-solver who is undaunted by the inevitable challenges that will crop up as we work to break new ground in South Africa’s under-developed Early Childhood Development sector
Strong communicator, capable of engaging in big-picture strategic thinking as well as detail-oriented implementation to join our management team as a full-time Chief Financial Officer
