Edunova in South Africa is an educational technology organisation established in 2004, with three locations and 20 fulltime staff and over 30 interns on projects. Edunova has been delivering educational technology programmes since 2005. Edunova offers programmes to primary and high schools as well as to post matric young adults. Edunova unique experiential facilitation techniques foster and accelerate leadership and capacity development learning.

The development of young adults as key education support resources in schools and school communities underpins our approach toward the work that Edunova does.Edunova seeks to apppoint  Project Manager to be based in the Knysna area of the Western Cape. Candidates should have a track record of managing projects and working successfully within diverse teams. Experience working in the non-profit and education sector with schools and Department of Education stakeholders is preferable.

 

 

Job Title: Education E-learning Project Manager
Location: South Africa
Employment Type: Full-time

Key Responsibilities:

  • High level and critical path project management responsibilities:
  • Overall responsibility for and success of the project and successful implementation towards, and delivery of, project milestones and outcomes
  • Management of all project resources within the parameters of the project proposal and contract held between the funder and Edunova
  • Stakeholder engagement, communication and information dissemination
  • Project team leadership and development
  • Delivery driven oversight of programmatic work-streams and project activity areas
  • Controlling the quality of process and delivery
  • Proactively managing scope to ensure delivery
  • Identification, tracking, management, reduction and resolution of risks and issues through high levels of open communication at all levels of the project
  • Decision making in such a way that risk is controlled and uncertainty minimised; substantive decisions must be discussed and cleared with the Edunova Programme Manager
  • Make use of IT tools and applications provided by Edunova to organise the tasks and workforce

Process Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee the planning, implementation, delivery and reporting processes of the project including:
  • Development, maintenance and updating of the project plan in relation to the contracted agreement, objectives, expected outcomes and quarterly milestones
  • Managing the overall schedule to ensure work is assigned and completed on time and within the budget
  • Management and maintenance of the project budget in collaboration with Edunova’s Financial Manager
  • Creation of new and maintenance of existing project documentation within the Edunova Office365 and Salesforce cloud-based domain
  • Regular reporting on milestones, project data (including definition and collection of progress metrics) and financials though existing project processes: meeting structures and reporting templates
  • Oversight of all project administration

Meeting processes:

  • Set up and chair quarterly Steering Committee meetings; these form the backbone of project governance and constitute the strategic guidance of the project; SteerCom meetings need to align to the contractual agreement, strategic imperative and financial management pertaining to the project with clear documented process in place to support this structure
  • Weekly operational meetings with the project team need to take place on site with remote (Microsoft Teams) participation from the Cape Town based team members as necessary, week-to-week, in line with project plan and deliverables
  • Regular, as necessary for project success, meetings and engagement with key project stakeholders (partners, funders, Department of Education, school principals, etc.) to ensure stakeholder role and expectation clarity

Human resource responsibilities: 

  • Establishment and development of the project team
  • Having the discipline and general management skills to make sure that people follow the standard processes and procedures; this will entail a level of administrative staff management especially in relation to the budget (petty cash and personal spend) and supporting logistical and operational arrangements (travel, leave, etc.)
  • Establishing leadership skills to get the team to willingly follow your direction; leadership is about communicating a vision and getting the team to accept it and strive to get there with you
  • Setting reasonable, challenging and clear expectations for people, and holding them accountable for meeting the expectations; this includes providing good performance feedback to team members
  • Team building skills so that the people work together well, and feel motivated to work hard for the sake of the project and their other team members.
  • Proactive verbal and written communication skills, including good, active listening skills
  • If the team has poor morale and is missing deadlines, you need to try to resolve it; if team members don’t understand exactly what they need to do and when it is due, then you are responsible

Role requirements: 

  • Qualification in education
  • Experience working as a Project Manager; a qualification in this field will be advantageous
  • Experience in e-learning
  • Experience working in the non-profit and education sector with schools and Department of Education stakeholders is preferable
  • The ability to work as part of a diverse team, across geographical areas
  • Own reliable transport
  • Valid South African drivers license
  • Use of internet and email from multiple locations, as demanded by the role
  • To make use of tools, such as a laptop, in order to be effective and efficient within the role
  • Have a cellphone available, switched on and a professional voicemail service facility to make and receive calls, to receive and respond to messages throughout the life of the project
  • To operate from the Edunova place of work, located in the Knysna area
