Job Title: Head of Techinal Operations

Job Summary:
The Head of Technical Operations is responsible for developing a departmental strategy, manage budgets, overall technical operations and reports to the Chief Technical Officer, as well as a dotted line to the Head/MD of News. The position is responsible for technical equipment acquisitions, assist management, as well as overall management of the department.

•Manage technical operations to ensure sections deliver high quality service to relevant departments.
•Ensure efficiency and that timelines and deadlines are met in the department.
•Gather news; disseminates information among the other production staff, advance planning for shows
•Reacts immediately to breaking news; serves as the primary technical newsgathering resource point-person for coordinating productions
•Informed and up to date on news events and other events
•Overall management of the Technical Operations Department.
•Overall responsible for the training with the technical operations department
•Overall management of the technical facilities, including control room, sets, studios, edit suits, Master Control Room.

•Organize the technical staff to service the needs of the group in an efficient and effective manner
•Overall responsibility of developing, implementing and maintaining of the Technical Operations Workflows
•Ensure that all operational aspects of the broadcast are correct and running smoothly
•Building strategic working relations with staff, support services and suppliers through regular contact

•Coordinate resources relating to broadcasts to ensure seamless quality broadcasting
•Facilitate, manage and execute disciplinary matters related to misconduct, incapacity and poor work performance.
•Manage and co-ordinate technical operations with external production companies to ensure delivery of content via satellite, fiber links and other delivery methods
•Manage general administration of department

•Draw up the departmental budget and align to the company’s strategy
•Track budget guidelines for special projects and related assignments
•Strategic planning of resources required for various productions
•Reconcile invoices based on quotes and track that payment is done accordingly
•Monitor and submit monthly variance reports to the finance department

Key Performance Indicators:
1. Data Integrity Control:
Obtain, check and refine information. Collate and submit reports, take action when instruction is given. Conduct document control spot-checks

2. Functional planning and performance:
Monitor the implementation of remedial actions

3. Risk management:
Manage the company’s risk exposure through identifying, implementation and maintenance of risk control measures to minimize the company’s liability

4. Policy development and ownership:
Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the organizational standards, policies and procedures within span of control and monitor implementation to ensure full compliance

5. Monitor Compliance:
Monitor and ensure adherence to statutory regulations, organizational standards, policies and procedures. Ensure remedial actions is implemented timeously to address non-conformances, ensure effective and regular communication of new statutory regulatory.

6. Internal and external stakeholder management
Build and support and maintain healthy, diverse, internal relationships to ensure achievement of organizational goals. Implement remedial actions where required

7. Budget and cost controls:
Provide input into annual budget planning process and submit to line management for approval. Access expenditure and resolve gaps. Support identification, implementation and development of processes to optimize cost efficiency.

8. Communicating:
Providing staff with information and subordinates with written, WhatsApp, telephone, in person, or whatever means is deemed sufficient. Coordinating the work and activities of others – getting members of a group to work together to accomplish tasks

9. Organizing, planning and prioritizing work:
Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize and accomplish your work

10. Developing teams:
Encouraging and building mutual trust, respect and co-operation among team members.

11. Solving problems:
Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solutions and solve problems.

Education: Diploma/Advanced Certificate in IT, Engineering, Broadcast, Tech Production, Media/Journalism
Languages: English
Experience: 10 years of experience in Television Broadcast and 5 years in Management
