Job Purpose
The environmental officer ensures that the complex complies with prescribed Environmental Management Standards.

Education
Matric and Degree/National Diploma in Environmental Management/Science

Experience:
At least 3 years’ experience in environmental management.

Skills and Knowledge
Sound knowledge of the Environmental and SANS regulations, requirements and the legal implications relating thereto.
Sound knowledge of incident investigation methods, administration and reporting of incidents as prescribed by ISO14001.
Sound knowledge of EHS incident investigation methods, administration and reporting of such incidents.
Proven experience in the Environmental Management field within the Gaming, Hotel and Resorts environment.
Computer literate – MS Windows Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Projects.
Sound knowledge of compiling and drafting EMP’s policy and procedure manuals compliant with ISO14001.

Key Performance Areas:
Environmental management
Implement and manage the GrandWest EMS program.
Co-ordination and administration of all aspects relating to compliance with Environmental Management Systems and advise/direct management on the corrective and mitigating measure required.
Conduct EMS audits, – Monitor, measure and record noise, water, land, air emissions and waste streams and implement measures to reduce these on the bases of continual improvement.

Environmental programs
Develop, implement, manage and audit the property environmental programs.
Develop complex campaigns around environmental awareness.

General
Communication: communicate and report all matters relating to EMS to the Complex Engineering Manager as required and/or as directed.
Communicate and liaise with GrandWest Departments, Concessionaires, Tenants and Service Providers in order to ensure that all areas are maintained and operated in keeping with the EMP strategies.
Perform any other special duties as requested from time to time by the Complex General Manager and / or Complex Engineering Manager and / or Company Directors.

Equipment and Supplies
Monitor all emergency equipment, ensure that it is functioning properly and effectively, and take corrective action where necessary.
Determine the optimum requirements for equipment relating to environmental best practice and ensure the effective utilisation and application of such equipment.

Administration and Control
Ensure sound, accurate and systematic record keeping of all environmental aspects.
Ensure that all environmental work and any outstanding work required have been done according to required legislated standards.

Conduct Investigations and Risk Audits
Fully investigate causes of Environmental incidents and / or accidents within the workplace ensuring that preventative action is correctly instituted.

Equity:
