EXECUTIVE PRODUCER (Local Productions): Content Production Division (Johannesburg)

Reporting to the Manager Local Productions your Key Performance Areas will include:
Editorial development, creative oversight, and daily running of original e.tv local programmes and specials
Working with the Manager of Local Productions to define creative, editorial, logistics and direction of local programmes
Appraising scripts and programmes for all assigned programmes
Representing the Channel at all meetings where content is discussed and advising
Managing content and all resources associated with the production of all forms of TV productions
Managing programme sponsorship
Approving content for broadcast as outlined by ICASA regulations and guidelines on libelous and ethical issues associated with programme content
Monitoring compliance by independent production companies with the terms of commissioning agreements
Establishing and maintaining contacts and cooperative working relationships with independent producers
Participating in strategy sessions of the Channel and advising on best and latest practices of programming and Television generally
Working with the various networks and project teams to determine future steps
Monitoring effective delivery of program related materials, including music cue sheets and program elements
Performing other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Television, Journalism, or related field is preferred
At least ten years experience producing series and specials for broadcast
At least five years experience as a managing or senior producer
Prior experience as an Executive Producer is preferred
Proven creative and program development skills
Proven decision-making, multi-tasking and leadership skills
Proven ability to meet deadlines
Good communication skills (verbally and in writing)
Good interpersonal skills

WRITER
Reporting to the GM: eNews your key performance areas will include:
Monitoring the wire services and news feeds for the latest local and international news
Writing scripts for news inserts and illustrate the story visually in video editing
Writing news crawlers and news boards
Turning soundbytes from studio interviews
Setting up guests to be interviewed during the various bulletins
Assisting in crafting intros and cues for anchors in studio

Requirements:
More than two years journalistic experience – preferably in writing for broadcast
Excellent command of the English language
Excellent writing skills
Good editorial judgement and interpretational skills
Ability to work under pressure making deadlines

Note:
The successful candidate will be required to work irregular and long hours, including weekends, public holidays and standby shifts.

BULLETIN PRODUCER
Reporting to the GM: News your key performance areas will include the following:
Liaising with Output Editor, video editors, library/archives and the technical crew
Assisting with choosing which stories go in the bulletin and their order of importance
Assisting with deciding on the duration of stories and how best to visually illustrate them
Building and timing bulletins
Performing quality control checks on video material
Preparing rundowns for live crossings; guests; international live feeds
Turning headlines video; voiceovers; packages; bites from interviews and other content
Co-ordinating with Graphics department
Checking the wire services and news feeds for the day’s news/breaking news
Writing some local and international stories

Requirements:
Relevant journalism experience preferably in broadcasting
Functional knowledge of the broadcast technology and control room operations
Good general knowledge, thorough understanding of SA politics and players involved
Excellent writing skills
A developed news sense
Ability to work under pressure and on tight deadlines

Note: the successful candidate will work irregular hours including weekends and public holidays.
OUTPUT EDITOR
Reporting to the GM: eNews your key performance areas will include:
Taking charge of the production team responsible for bulletins
Directing bulletin producers, reporters, writers, content producers
Determining the structure, look and feel of a series of bulletins
Choosing the dropping order of stories
Subbing news copy provided by reporters and writers
Writing both local and international copy
Identifying headline material
Writing headlines and promos
Approving final copy for air
Monitoring wires and websites for breaking news
Approving visuals for use in headlines and promos
Crafting questions for studio interviews
Stand-in output editor for other shifts as required

Requirements:
More than five years journalistic experience – preferably in writing for broadcast
Excellent command of the English Language
Excellent understanding of both Prime Time and Satellite audiences
Editorial judgment
Strong knowledge and understanding of the legalities and ethics surrounding journalism
Attention to detail
Creative ability
Ability to work under extreme pressure, and make deadlines
Interpersonal skills

Note:
