The department is accountable for supervising the business conduct of micro insurers and other financial services entities operating in the “micro” or “access product” space. The person appointed in the role will be expected to assist with the management of the department, monitor compliance with the provisions of the Financial Sector Regulation Act, 9 of 2017 (FSR Act) and other relevant financial sector laws to ensure a sound and efficient micro institutions industry. The person appointed to this position will report to the Departmental Head of Micro and Access Product Institutions

 

 

 

 

Job Title: MANAGER MICRO AND ACCESS PRODUCT INSTITUTIONS DEPARTMENT

Job Summary:
Key Performance Areas:
•Manage the operations and deliverables of the department to meet regulatory and supervisory objectives as per agreed Service Level Commitment (SLC);
•Co-ordinate and manage planned on-site inspections with other FSCA Departments and ensure proper reporting within the specified time frames;
•Ensure that urgent/critical matters emanating from on-site inspections are attended to timeously;
•Ensure that all allegations relating to non-compliance with relevant legislation and unfair treatment of customers by micro institutions are attended to;
•Ensure that all project-based activities are coordinated and attended to efficiently;
•Actively participate and contribute to industry and FSCA committees as and when required;
•Manage the human resource function of the team effectively and efficiently (train and develop, monitor, lead and assess performance of staff);
•Assist the Departmental Head in developing the supervisory framework for micro-institutions;
•Assist the Departmental Head by recommending and implementing changes to the regulatory framework and policy within FSCA;
•Perform any other task as delegated by the Departmental Head.

The candidate must demonstrate the following skills and attributes:
High level of judgement and have a confident and decisive approach. Good knowledge and/or experience of the functioning of the financial services industry are essential. Problem analysis; information gathering; communication skills; project management skills; ability to interact effectively with senior staff/ industry representatives and stakeholders; ability to work effectively under pressure, attention to detail; accuracy skills; good interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence; good organisational skills; Report writing skills and be able to lead and motivate a team in order to meet individual and team goals.

Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in Legal/Commerce/Risk Management or related field, coupled with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience, preferably within the financial services industry. A solid understanding of the financial services industry and experience in managing teams will be an added advantage.
