The Head of Department (HOD) will be responsible for on-going monitoring, research and assessment of technological trends and innovations to understand their external impact on financial sector business models, product and solution design and customer outcomes, to inform agile and appropriate regulatory and supervisory responses to technological innovations. The person appointed to this position will report to the Divisional Executive: Regulatory Policy.

 

 

 

 

 

Job Title: DEPARTMENTAL HEAD FINTECH

Job Summary:
Key Performance Areas:
•Provide leadership around innovation analysis, synthesis and framework development;
•Research, monitor and assess technological trends and innovations to understand their impact on financial sector business models and products;
•Developing the annual business innovation strategy for the FSCA;
•Oversee the development and implementation of internal policies, innovation business plans as well as the FSCA Innovation Committee;
•Develop and maintain a controlled “regulatory sandbox” and testing environment in order to collaborate open dialogue between the FSCA, the PA, the SARB, other regulatory bodies as well as current and new financial sector service providers;
•Develop and promote relationships/ partnerships with Fintech companies as well as other local, regional and international agencies which have similar objectives as the FSCA;
•Prepare and manage the department’s annual strategic and business plans as well as the budget;
•Manage the human resources of the team effectively and efficiently (train, develop, monitor, lead and assess performance of staff); and
•Perform such other tasks necessary or desirable to enhance the performance of the department.

Requirements:
An appropriate post-graduate degree in Economics, Banking, or a related discipline with at least 10 years’ experience in the financial sector, 5 of which must be in a management or senior management level. Extensive knowledge and understanding of consumer trends in the South African financial sector. Good knowledge and experience of the functioning of the banking and insurance industry. Knowledge and experience in Information Technology (IT) would be an added advantage.
