The position exists to support the provision of services related to tailings management, tailings risk management, tailings advisory, hydro remining and other potential services as required. Provision of technical support to the operations, with a focus on the Tailings Division, is also part of the scope. This position can also support the Division’s commercial and marketing plans.
Lead the execution of tailings risk management advisory projects.
Provide support during the execution of hydro remining projects, as required.
Implement, improve and manage an integrated risk management system (“TORAS”) for tailings operations.
Monitor and report on technical risks by means of ongoing technical audits.
Regular monitoring of the performance of any geotechnical structures, observing and reporting on effectiveness of maintenance of all TSF facilities.
Provide assurance that data submissions are accurate.
Undertake technical assessments of tailings operations including stability assessments, life assessments, water balances etc.
Undertake studies and designs related to the construction, development and closure of tailings facilities.
Provide mentoring, guidance and support to Technicians and Engineers working within tailings operations.
Work closely with Operations on contracts to ensure that appropriate recommendations and estimations have been made and accurate costings are submitted for project deliverables and performance.
Deliver on the value proposition to FA Operations as per agreed scope of work.
Drive Digitalisation initiatives.
Develop and implement approved policies and practices .
Input to R &D projects in SA and at a group level.
Ensure compliance with all statutory and company legislation.
Recommend improvements and corrective actions where appropriate.
Manage Safety, Health, Environment and Quality of Technical Risk systems and processes.
Help develop a pipeline of suitable professionals to support the future of FA South America.
Ensure continuous capacity building of employee by applying effective L&D strategies.
Ensure an engaged workforce through effective leadership and management skills.
Project identification and development:
Assist the GM and PMs to identify appropriate opportunities within the divisions geographic target areas.
Develop and drive an engagement approach for the identified opportunities.
Assist with proposal submissions.
BSc Eng (Civil) or equivalent
Post Degree qualification in Geotechnics Highly desired
Active registration with CREA MG
CNRH registration Highly desired
Minimum of 10 years applicable experience
High level knowledge of civil and geotechnical aspects, best practice, its implementation, and the laws and regulations.
Demonstrated experience in Tailings Storage Facilities inspection, design, construction, operation and risk analysis.
