Job Title: SENIOR SUPERINTENDENT
Location: Evander, Mpumalanga, South Africa

Salary: Market Related

Manages the implementation and delivery of one large, or multiple smaller production/project sites against safety, time, quality and cost standards and risks, and has a definite emphasis on practical, technical and commercial management. Responsible for all on-site activities, including organising work and making sure all key materials are delivered on time. The successful candidate should preferably have a remining background within a production or technical context.

Business/Functional Management:

Execute production responsibilities in line with organisational strategy, in order to achieve set goals.

Report to Operations Manager on operational and project performance.

Executing responsibilities to support sustainability of the broader business, as per operational/project requirements.

Financial, Commercial & Contracts Management

Provide inputs to Operations Manager on site costs.

May be involved with finalisation of tenders and structuring the operationalisation thereof.

Implement financial, commercial and contracts management processes and procedures, as set by the organisation, and give inputs to contracts structuring.

Risk Management & Compliance, incl. ESG responsibility

Ensure the company’s policy on social responsibility is adhered to.

Be fully aware of the content and impact of new contracts i.e.

General Conditions of Contract, Special Conditions, Specifications, and Drawings; be aware of relevant legislation relating to the contract – as related to operational execution and governance.

Stakeholder Management (Internal/External):

Promote ongoing open communication with Client Resident Engineer,.

Mining Manager and other client managers to foster good relations between FAT and the Client, through appropriate forums and interfaces.

Manage interface with other client contractors and operations on site.

Operations & Project Management:

Undertake the implementation of company procedures and projects objectives on a specific project(s) in their area of responsibility.

Responsible for project execution and risk management on one or multiple sites – within budget, scope, timelines, productivity and SHEQ standards.

Management Operating System & Reporting:

Define, set up and implement appropriate management operating system, including forecasts, plans, targets, controls, measures, data management and trend analysis, reports and forums, for the site, to ensure effective management decision-making, performance management and corrective action.

Implement company policy and procedural requirements for recordkeeping, maintenance and monitoring of site records.

Technical Management:

Implement relevant quality and technical standards as agreed for the site.

Understand and implement relevant internal and client policies relating to technical matters, for the site.

SHEQ Management:

Oversee the implementation of the Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality plans and compliance and take corrective action as necessary to correct non-conformance.

Culture & Climate:

Build a culture of continuous improvement for the duration of the operation/project.

Align with client culture requirements as agreed with Management team, to enhance the client relationship.

Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:

BSc Engineering or BTech Engineering (mining /metallurgy /industrial /civil or similar).

Project Management qualification would be advantageous.

EXPERIENCE:

At least five years relevant experience in respect of managing sections of a Tailings and/or Remining site as Superintendent or as Mine overseer.

At least 5 years’ experience in a supervisory or management role, preferably in a tailings/mining environment, at Superintendent level.

SKILLS, QUALITIES AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Solid understanding of the Mining, Production and Tailings Industries with specific emphasis on Tailings business.

Knowledge and understanding of the national legislation, standards and bylaws applicable to Tailings business.

Excellent knowledge and understanding of technical and operational aspects core to the tailings and mining industry.

Excellent Commercial astuteness.
