The Business Development and Partnership Manager position at GRS SA will contribute directly towards helping the overall organization to achieve this ambitious goal.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Business Development and Partnership (BDP) Manager plays an important role in building and stewarding GRS South Africa’s relationships with donors and partners. This includes conceptualizing and developing proposals, prospecting partners for fundraising and other collaborative activities to reach the three As, building and maintaining effective partnerships and ensuring donor retention, facilitating timely and quality programme reporting, and increasing restricted and unrestricted fundraising for the organisation. The BDP Manager regularly analyses and assesses the adolescent health/SRHR/HIV funding landscape in South Africa, actively seeks fundraising opportunities for GRS South Africa, works closely with the Managing Director and other senior management team members on proposal development and developing of new partnerships, and coordinates writing, editing and submission of quarterly and annual grant reports. This position reports directly to GRS South Africa’s Managing Director, works closely with the GRS Global Business Development and Partnering Strategy Teams, and is responsible for management of the Business Development and Partnerships team at GRS SA.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Development and Fundraising

  • Lead in the development of concept notes, grant proposals and reports for a range of funders, including governments, foundations, corporations and individual donors with support from the Managing Director and Senior Managers,
  • In consultation with the Managing Director and global and SA finance team, maintain an overview of the organisation’s plans, strategy and funding gaps
  • Conduct regular trends and gap analyses of funding landscapes and keep up to date on opportunities through current and new in-country funders
  • Quality-assure proposals and all reports before submission to funding partners
  • Manage GRS SA’s Business Development and Partnerships reporting schedule, coordinate and edit quarterly and annual funding reports with inputs from the programmes team
  • Ensure that the GRS SA team contribute to Grassroot Soccer’s internal Donor Management System
  • Maintain GRS SA’s Business Development and Partnerships Google calendar including high level government meetings, proposal and reporting deadlines
  • Maintaining the GRS SA’s partnership mapping tool
  • Maintain and keep up-to-date the GRS South Africa Business Development Google Drive

New Partnership Development

  • Support the Managing Director to explore collaborative opportunities and partner with key actors for other objectives such as policy influence, research, visibility, etc notably with SAG, UN, and international and national NGOs.
  • Cultivate and strengthen relationships with a wide variety of partners including local and regional implementing partners, donors, government agencies, and multi-lateral agencies
  • Attend conferences, networking meetings, technical working group meetings, and workshops to meet with potential enabling and implementing partners
  • Assist with Implementing Partner identification and selection; answer partnership requests, conduct information sharing calls/meetings
  • Conduct assessments (virtual and in-person) with potential partners
  • Ensure regular health checks of key partnerships to focus attention on the quality of the partnership as well as the programme
  • Support the Senior Programmes manager in designing partnership programs in line with GRS strategy and mission, and identify and pursue opportunities for continual innovation and improvement
  • Closely collaborate with enabling and implementing partners to bring proposals to life through practical design of implementation plans, deliverable timelines and project milestones, and partnership infrastructure
  • Help with special projects as and when required to ensure GRS South Africa meets programmatic deliverables and commitments

Stakeholder Management

  • Establish, maintain and improve active working relationships with government, funders, UN, private sector, local and international NGOs
  • Represent GRS South Africa with key intermediaries, stakeholders and partners in the public and private sectors, who are capable of funding and collaborating with GRS South Africa, as assigned by the Managing Director
  • Represent the organisation at events, meetings and forums where it is required to establish and build relationships with key and potential funders and donors
  • Attend funders’ events as needed

Financial Management/Governance

  • In consultation with the Managing Director, prepare the annual budget for the BDP activities
  • Prepare expenditure projections as and when required
  • Monitor monthly actual expenditure against budgets, identify variances and ensure that the necessary follow up action is taken
  • Ensure and enforce the BDP teams compliance with all financial policies and procedures (including procurement).
  • Undertake spending with regard to value for money and ensure that service provider/s pricing is competitive
  • Identify and adequately manage internal and external high level risks to the
  • Prepare financial programme documents and reports for management, donor and Board requirements

Human Resources Management

  • Manage & support the BDP team to deliver activities related to their roles
  • Take ownership and accountability for all deliverables and responsibilities assigned to the position of Business Development and Partnership Manager
  • In consultation with the Managing Director, identify own training and coaching requirements to achieve optimal performance
  • Contribute to the development of a committed strategic integration team with individuals who work well together and provide each other with mutual support, assistance and cooperation
  • Comply with all HR policies and procedures
  • Participate in the management of and provide strategic direction for the organisation.

QUALIFICATIONS AND KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Relevant post graduate degree in International Development or similar field
  • Minimum five years’ experience in Business Development, Partnership Management and Grant Management, with implementation experience in the development sector
  • Experience with content writing, proposal writing, report writing, editing
  • Effective and confident communicator, both written and oral, with experience in cross-cultural communication
  • Ability to think creatively, identify linkages and synergies, and draw ideas together into concise and persuasive language, whether oral or written
  • Experience in project management
  • Excellent spoken and written proficiency in English
  • Experience working with international donor agencies (USAID, DFID, SIDA etc.)
  • Ability to manage and advance a diverse portfolio of funders, including corporations, foundations, government agencies and individuals
  • Strong research and presentation skills, and the ability to synthesise information concisely
  • Skilled and dynamic self-starter
  • Strong organisational skills, results and detail-oriented, ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Exceptional interpersonal and networking skills and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Able to work well independently, with other disciplines, and within a team
  • Highly organised and with an extremely sharp proofreading eye
  • Proficient in Google Management, Donor and Contact Management Systems
