Greenpop’s Urban Greening Programme is on a mission to inspire an urban future where nature and ecosystem services are abundant and both accessible to, and co-managed by, an active and inspired citizenry.  Greenpop is doing this by greening under-greened Schools / community centers with indigenous vegetation and water-wise systems as well as empowering and educating community members to value and care for their environments. This type of social engagement can uphold biodiversity and ecosystem services for the greater urban area while increasing the ecological linkages between other areas of biodiversity.

Job Title: Finance Coordinator
Job Location: Cape Town
Salary: Negotiable depending on experience between R13 000 and R17 000
Start date: As soon as possible, ideally no later than 15 November

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the integrity (accuracy and completeness) of accounting information in Xero (the cloud-based accounting software we use) through daily expense and income reconciliations
  • Conduct financial month-end procedures and paying salaries
  • Invoice and following up with outstanding payments as well as receiving invoices from 3rd parties and making weekly payments upon prior approval
  • Draft budgets and cash flow projections based on historical information and planned future projects
  • Responsible for submissions to SARS, CIPC and other financial governance. This includes bi-monthly VAT submissions, EMP 201 and EMP 501, BEE Verification etc
  • Weekly reporting to directors on the financial position of the Greenpop Group using an existing template
  • Assist regarding finances and stock management on Greenpop’s event planning, coordination and logistics
  • Provide project and event reports as and when needed to inform management of the financial feasibility of a specific project or event
  • Petty cash management
  • Income tax and provisional tax coordination and management of processes
  • Assist with Governance – registrations for entities, BBBEE certificates, Tax Certificates
  • Annual financial reporting assistance (we use an accounting firm)
  • Manage insurance
  • Liaise with auditors during the annual audit (along with our accounting firm)
  • The main point of contact with our Financial Consultants, Creative CFO
  • Ad-hoc research where necessary
  • In conjunction with Office Manager, managing Greenpop merchandise sales, orders and inventory

Requirements:

  • Minimum of two years’ of work experience in financial coordination, accounting services or high-level bookkeeping
  • Must have worked in the financial department of an organisation and understands work processes etc
  • Accounting, financial or business qualification
  • Financial operations management experience
  • Knowledge of excel
  • Prior experience in an accounting and payroll package (we use Xero)
  • Goal oriented
  • Multi-tasking skills
  • Telephonic skills
  • Initiative and an ability to create and activate projects without too much direction
  • Ability to drive and motivate others
  • Must be a fast worker
  • Organisational skills
  • A creative mind and a flexible attitude
  • Valid South African ID or valid work permit if not South African
  • Based in (or willing to move to) Cape Town
  • Knowledge of Google Drive (particularly Sheets)
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn all about Xero (the accounting software we use)
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn all about Salesforce
  • Valid drivers’ licence and own transport
