My client, a well established fruit exporter with an office in Grabouw, is seeking to employ a Diesel Mechanic. The ideal candidate will have a Diesel Mechanic Qualification with 3 years post-trade experience and 5 years’ experience within a workshop environment, preferably within agriculture.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot fleet equipment issues, either independently or with the Workshop Manager’s guidance.
- Ensure timely and standard completion of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks on farm fleet equipment.
- Offer technical expertise to workshop staff during problem diagnosis and maintenance execution, collaborating with the Workshop Manager for major mechanical issues and repairs.
- Collaborate with the Workshop Manager to fulfill ad-hoc requests for new equipment or modifications to existing farm machinery, providing technical insights.
- Develop and submit basic design specifications for approval, overseeing the implementation process and addressing any deviations from the design in consultation with the Workshop Manager.
- Perform daily quality checks on work completed, promptly implementing necessary rectifications, and reporting any quality compliance concerns to the Workshop Manager.
- Ensure workshop compliance with OHS Act and relevant regulations, monitoring safety procedures, and reporting deviations to management.
- Contribute to safety procedure development, including PPE guidelines, tool and equipment usage, promoting safe work practices to minimize incidents and injuries.
- Ensure accurate staff clocking and leave approval via Farmtrace, and manage fuel stock levels and consumable checks for maintenance, reporting deviations to the Workshop Manager.
- Maintain workshop supplies and monitor work order requests, reporting any challenges or disciplinary issues to the Workshop Manager for resolution.
Requirements:
- Diesel Mechanic Qualification with 3 years post-trade experience
- 5 years’ experience within a workshop environment, preferably within agriculture.
- Strong understanding of Mechanical principles
- Good mechanical diagnostic skills
- Good understanding of health and safety principles and OHS Act.
- Moderate Excel and computer literacy skills
