The Business Development Manager will lead in the creation of a multi-channel integrated approach to local and international fundraising initiatives. This will include conceptualizing and developing proposals, prospecting partners for fundraising, maintaining effective partnerships and ensuring donor retention.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL:
- Develop and review HPCA fundraising strategy to significantly increase income across a range of funding streams;
- Lead the business development cycles of the strategic objectives for funding sources including bilateral, and multilateral development partners, corporate and non-traditional sources in line with the organisation’s resource needs;
- Co-ordinate the development of highly competitive resource mobilisation proposals and concept notes, and ensure achievement of positive results;
- Conduct regular trends and gap analyses of funding landscapes and keep up to date on opportunities through current and new in-country funders;
- Develop and maintain working partnerships with like corporates/other institutions and other health development stakeholders in SA;
- Lead in the development of concept notes, grant proposals and reports for a range of funders, including governments, foundations, corporations and individual donors with support from the CEO and HPCA Programme Manager;
- Quality-assure proposals and all reports before submission to funding partners;
- Conceptualise and develop performance frameworks for business development and resource mobilization;
- Establish and maintain excellent relations with key donors (potential and existing);
- Together with CEO and Marketing Communications Manager develop marketing and public relations strategies;
- Represent the organisation at events, meetings and forums where it is required to establish and build relationships with key and potential funders and donors and
- Attend funders’ events as and when required.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & KEY COMPETENCIES: –
- Master’s degree in International Development, Communications, Marketing, Economics, Business, Management, International Relations or any other relevant discipline;
- A minimum of 7 years proven experience in generating funds within the non-profit sector;
- Demonstrated experience utilising diverse, proactive strategies to competitively position the organisation for new funding and productive institutional relationships;
- Proven successful track record in securing funding from different local and international agencies and other donors;
- Extensive experience in developing proposals, budgets, log frames, work plans, and other components of proposals;
- Strategic leadership, representation, negotiation and decision-making skills with an entrepreneurial approach in developing funding streams, designing funding mechanisms, including social enterprise models;
- Analytical thinker with ability to operate in a fast paced and shifting resource environment; with a keen sense of contextual relevance of trends and opportunities;
- Strong networking capacity with foundations, trusts, government and corporate donors;
- Experience with content writing, proposal writing, report writing and editing;
- Self-motivated with a commitment to continuously produce results focused on impact;
- Entrepreneurial thinker with highly evolved relationship building skills;
- Strong written and oral communication skills in the English language and
- An undendorsed driver’s license.
