Job Purpose
Reporting to the Financial Controller: Hotel Operations, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that the internal control environment is sound and assisting the General / Hotel Manager with the financial impact of business decisions
Education
Matric
B.Com Accounting or similar qualification
Completion of articles advantageous
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years accounting experience in a financial environment, preferably within the hospitality environment
Skills and Knowledge
Application of sound accounting policies and procedures
Knowledge of Accpac, Opera, Micros or similar systems
Excel and Word skills essential
Strong management and interpersonal skills
Attention to detail and strong work ethics
Honesty, integrity
Key Performance Areas:
Assisting as Finance/Business Manager for the unit, working with the General Manager/Hotel Manager on business strategies
Implement and maintain workplace policies and procedures
Ensure a stable internal control environment
Preparing financial forecasts.
Ensure on a continuous basis that all strategies are aligned with changes in the operational and financial environment
Prepare monthly management reports to Unit EOC to report on results for the unit
Prepare budget for the unit.
Ensure all revenue raised is accounted for and reported on a monthly basis
Audit and review cost reports to ensure proper cost and stock controls are in place
Review journals done by Assistant Accountants to ensure it is a true and accurate reflection of the financial position in the unit and all entries are in line with IFRS
Review balance sheets to ensure accuracy, validity and completeness of all reconciliation items and identify any possible over provision or risks
Secure the internal control environment
Continuous innovation to add value to the unit and the business in general
