Job Description

Looking for highly motivated individuals that are strong team players and have a desire to make a difference through contribution. The IBM Commerce team is looking to hire a Business Solutions Client Technical Specialist. Up to 50% travel 3-4 days per week, home on weekends.

Client Technical Specialists are technical consultants and trusted advisors to clients, IBM sales teams and/or IBM Business Partners. They understand the client’s business requirements, technical requirements and/or competitive landscape. They take ownership of all technical aspects of progressing a sale, which includes discovery, articulating to our customers’ technical, management and executive staff the advantages of the IBM product set and how best to deploy the solutions we are proposing. In addition, they provide technical sales support which may include: collaborating with IBM sales teams to define, design, and detail the technical aspects and feasibility of proposed solutions; deliver Proof of Concept; develop and deliver technical education; support critical situations; answer technical questions; proposal writing; removing inhibitors to the sale through discovery, assessments, whiteboard/chalk talks, presentations, and demonstrations. When engaged for a specific opportunity or project, they are responsible for the technical accuracy of the proposed solution.

The Business Solutions Client Technical Specialist is a pre-sales software technical specialist who assists in winning business opportunities for the Business Solutions product namely Sterling Integrator, Sterling File Gateway, Connect, WebSphere WTX/WPG, SaaS (Software as a Service).

Desired Candidate Experience

  • Proven commercial experience in a technical pre-sales capacity with Sterling or IBM WTX products and/or competitive B2B / EDI / integration products and technologies as a pre-sales technical professional or as a technical end user.
  • Proven success in software installation and implementation experience, Presentation, and high level communications.
  • Preferred to have at least 2 years’ experience with at least one Heritage Sterling Commerce product or IBM WTX product and an understanding of capabilities of the complimentary products in the WebSphere software portfolio.
  • A strong technical aptitude along with the ability to communicate with and effectively present to business users including executives.



  • At least 1 year experience in one of the following industries: Retail, Financial Services, Insurance, Manufacturing, Distribution, and Logistics
  • At least 1 year experience in in technical sales or implementation of EDI / B2B/MFT software, Sterling Commerce, and/or 3rd party competitive offering
  • At least 1 year experience in n Support Tech Sales of Sterling Commerce EDI, WTX, or MFT products
  • Proven Pre-Sales Experience / Exposure
  • Working knowledge of the following technologies : Sterling Integrator, Sterling File Gateway, Connect, WebSphere WTX/WPG, SaaS (Software as a Service).
