Interactive Research and Development South Africa (IRD SA) is registered as a South African-based nonprofit company (NPC). IRD SA works extensively in Southern Africa providing healthcare delivery and research. The IRD SA team leverages process and technology innovations to address gaps in global healthcare delivery, including health market innovations based on social business models; introduction of new diagnostics, drugs and vaccines; performance-based incentives for health workers.

Job Title: Project Lead
Job Location: Durban
Report to: The IRD-SA Country Director

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and grow the NCD-LINK Project operating across eleven primary health facilities and one community hospital in eThekwini
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team of health screeners, data capturers, and clinical specialists as they carry out an ambitious four and half years’ project to screen and link to care people who are affected by TB, diabetes, heart disease, and other leading public health challenges
  • Ensure that grant activities complement ongoing and planned efforts across the Metro eThekwini area
  • Represent the project at public forums and will share and disseminate findings at local, regional, and national meetings
  • Work closely alongside the Country Director to grow IRD-SA’s presence in the NCD space beyond this project as it aligns with service integration priorities of the National DOH
  • Ensure that all activities are implemented, monitored, and reported on as agreed upon by project stakeholders
  • Coordinate regular stakeholder meetings with representatives from eThekwini District Health Department and KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Department of Health to share lessons learned and to consider mechanisms for scalability and sustainability beyond the project period
  • Manage and coordinate grant activities in coordination with project stakeholders and along agreed upon project timeline
  • Liaise with National, Provincial and District, and Municipal Departments of Health (DOH) stakeholders and other project partners from the development phase through implementation and handover
  • Supervise and contribute to the work of community and facility screeners, linkage to care and clinical specialists, and data capturers
  • Produce and share quarterly project reports with project stakeholders
  • Participate in bi-weekly management meetings with project administrators from AA and D and IRD-SA
  • Represent project at regional and national forums and provide project updates and lessons learned where appropriate

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Ensure the maintenance and growth of strategic relationships with multi-disciplinary project stakeholders
  • Engage regularly with municipal, district, provincial and national level officials on project activities, findings, and integration with government initiatives
  • Strengthen IRD-SA’s NCD portfolio in line with National DOH priorities
  • Coordinate community activities to raise awareness about the project
  • Contribute to meetings and updates with project donor

Requirements:

  • Degree in Health Sciences, Nursing, Social Sciences or related field is required
  • Master’s Degree in Public Health or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of five years of relevant work experience, including two years of project management experience (accountability for end-to-end project delivery)
  • Familiar with evidence-based screening and treatment algorithms for TB and diabetes at the community level
  • Desire to learn and problem solve in complex working environments
  • Familiar with South Africa’s health system, in particular PHC reengineering and integration of chronic disease services
  • Desire to engage with multiple community stakeholders, private sector, government officials, and project partners on a regular basis
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Fluency in English and isiZulu is essential
  • Valid driver’s SA license
  • Have experience working on TB and diabetes programmes at the community level and enjoys network-building opportunities.
