The iThemba Rape and Trauma Support centre is a nonprofit organisation, dedicated to offering comprehensive care for the survivors of traumatic events, as well as their family and friends. This care includes counseling, treatment for physical trauma, prevention of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases and the careful gathering of forensic evidence.
Job Title: Chief Social Worker
Job Location: Johannesburg
Responsibilities:
- Manage client records by accepting new cases, assess ad help the clients on the way forward, provide clients with short term therapy, refer clients to the various Departments with iKhaya Lethemba Building, if help cannot be provided at iKhaya Lethemba network, network to find correct placement for the client or other solutions to the problem
- Provide telephone counselling and make contacts with clients in a form of a follow up
- Conduct assessments with new clients
- Attend and organise monthly training
- Attend training facilitated by the Department of Social Development and Community of Safety
- Attend trainings aimed at acquiring CPD points as per the SACSSP’s expectation
- Provide training to staff and volunteers for self-growth
- Assist with identifying, implementing, evaluating and monitoring a training plan for all staff
- Ensure that there are training registers kept for all the trainings conducted and attended
- Discuss possible community work projects and the group work projects
- Assist in developing policies and implementing going forward; conduct community outreach programmes and awareness campaigns on Rape and Trauma and Domestic Violence
- Verbal discussion with Social workers and staff in other departments at iKhaya LEthemba
- Informal case discussions with the Social Workers and Social Auxiliary workers
- Regular correspondence with iThemba Benoni Manager
- Answer telephone queries from the public regarding Social work services and Provide regular supervision for all staff
- Liaise with other professionals such as psychologists, psychiatrist, SAPS Government welfare agencies and the NGO’s involved in the criminal justice system
- Referral of clients to relevant internal and external stakeholders for further intervention such as shelters and court preparation
- Build up comprehensive resource list
- Research other shelters where clients who do not meet the criteria of iKhaya iThemba can be placed
- Attend VEP forum meetings
- Attend and chairing General staff meeting with iThemba JHB Staff members and other meetings as per schedule with the Professional Service Director
- Attend and Participate in the Annual General Meetings
- Attend the monthly Management Meetings
- Collect petty cash slips
- Handle over petty cash vouchers, slips and spreadsheet to the accountant on a monthly basis
- Ensure that there is no fruitless and wasteful expenditure
Requirements:
- Social Work qualification
- Registers with the SACSSP
- Minimum of seven to 10 years of experience working as a Social Worker
- Knowledge in forensic assessment will be an advantage
- Computer proficiency
- Willingness to work after hours when required
- Meticulous, organised and deadline driven
- Report writing skills
- Knowledge in Supervision
- Knowledge of legislations related to Victim Empowerment Programme
- Ability to interact comfortably and effectively with people from different backgrounds.
- Writing, communication and language skills
- Ability to work with team and without supervision
