J.P. Morgan has more than 200 years of experience in investment banking, and our leadership, expertise and ongoing innovation in the industry continues to inspire our clients and colleagues today.

Many of the reasons you might want to work in Investment Banking at J.P. Morgan grow directly from our structure and our strategy: the volume and quality of the deals we do and the opportunities to make a personal impact at an early stage in your career. All of these are made possible by an unrivalled client solutions platform.

What is Investment Banking?

Most investment banks seem to structure their business slightly differently, often using different terminology, but hopefully this section will give you a helpful understanding of the Investment Banking business at J.P. Morgan.

In the simplest terms, Investment Banking helps companies decide on their marketplace strategy. Should they merge with another company? Make acquisitions? Sell off part of their business? Raise money from the equity or debt markets? To help them make these decisions, J.P. Morgan provides financial and strategic advice on a range of major transactions. We structure equity offerings for major corporations and governments, including initial public offerings, privatisations, secondary offerings and over-the-counter derivatives solutions. Investment Banking also provides access to public and private investment grade debt, high yield and bank markets for a wide range of high-profile clients, from governments and multi-national companies to family-owned companies and individuals.

At the heart of the Investment Banking business is the client executive. Our clients could be corporate clients, financial institutions or governments, and it is the client executive who manages this relationship, interacting daily with the CEO and CFO. The client executive is not aligned to one specific J.P. Morgan product or specialized in the client’s industry. Instead, the client executive provides advice on the full spectrum of the firm’s products. That means offering the right solution at the right time. They are the single point of reference for the client and lead every one of our deal teams.

Supporting the client executive, we have four primary teams:

  • Debt Capital Markets
  • Equity Capital Markets
  • Industry Teams
  • Mergers & Acquisitions
