Job Title: National Nutrition Programme Coordinator
Job Location: Johannesburg

The purpose of the position is to manage JAM SA Nutritional Programmes, including programme implementation, subordinate staff management, monitoring and evaluation of programme systems, and managing expenses.

Report to: Programme Manager

Responsibilities:

Tactical Planning & Direction

  • Develop and have an approved annual national strategic plan, based on JAM SA goals & objectives
  • Hold an annual review workshop for national performance with full staff participation as part of planning for the following year

Financial Management

  • Give input into the annual national programme budget
  • Ensure all costs are adequately covered based on the previous year and taking into account inflation and expansion
  • Prepare and present a needs analysis to cover day to day running costs, replacement costs and equipment supply for the programme
  • Prepare a budget forecast for the staff for the year

Human Resources Management

  • Ensure subordinates job descriptions are up to date and make suggestions for any revisions
  • Conduct quarterly performance reviews of all subordinate staff
  • Ensure completion of annual 360-degree appraisal for all subordinate staff
  • Propose annual training plan for national office and programme staff to HR
  • Propose a training plan for any shortfalls experienced in own skills base over time

Supervisory Practices

  • Hold regular meetings with all subordinates to discuss the programme and any challenges
  • Perform regular field visits to national offices and programmes to evaluate staff performance
  • Check on programme progress and confirm the validity of reports
  • Work with staff to develop key competencies and build capacity

Programme Management

  • Hold regular meetings (Skype or face to face) and oversee and monitor all programme activity
  • Ensure programme targets and requirements are fulfilled
  • Provide a weekly plan and performance report structure to subordinates for accurate reporting meetings, field visit evaluations and evaluate field expenditure
  • Evaluate and measure success and challenges
  • Ensure subordinates and supervisors are managing community relations
  • Have a plan to strengthen meetings with government stakeholders  and build relationships with Government representatives based on this plan
  • Network with other stakeholders (e.g. NGOs, donors) were appropriate and necessary

Policies and Procedures Compliancy

  • Ensure all activities are compliant with JAM policies and procedures, (Request this document) and donor requirements
  • Familiarize self with the JAM national nutritional plan. (Request this document)
  • Communicate JAM strategic plan and policies and procedures to subordinate staff
  • Provide necessary support to ensure compliance and/or implementation (Create a poster/material of the JAM “big picture” that staff contribute to)
  • Identify and report any policy/procedural deviations by operational staff immediately

Reporting

  • Submit complete, accurate monthly report by 15th day of each month
  • Submit complete, accurate quarterly report by the 15th day of the following month (e.g., January-March report submitted by April 15th)
  • Ensure ECD centre beneficiary evaluations are completed for all programmes
  • Supervise the collection and archiving of ECD success stories for newsletter or marketing
  • Ensure all necessary information is collected to complete comprehensive audits on each ECD centre
  • Ensure information is fed to the central SA ECD Data base with the month end report

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 and any relevant tertiary qualifications in development-related field
  • Fluency in English and preferably at least one other official African language
  • Management, leadership and conflict resolution skills
  • Organisational and coordination skills
  • Strategic thinking, decision-making and problem-solving abilities
  • Sound knowledge of South African society
  • Communication skills – both oral and written
  • Attention to detail
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Computer Literacy – Microsoft Office
  • Experience in a structured supervisory environment
  • Experience in community development, preferably with significant time spent in the field
