We are searching for a dynamic Senior Multimedia Journalist to join Jacaranda FM News Team. The successful encumbent will be based at and service Jacaranda FM, a division of Kagiso Media (Pty) Ltd.

 

 

 

 

Job Title: SENIOR MULTIMEDIA JOURNALIST

Job Summary:
The ideal candidate for this position will be responsible for researching (Field/Desk), writing, capturing visual content and editing stories for multiple platforms. Combining text, images, sound, and videos to provide unique content on-air and online.

Multi Media Reporting:
•Receiving an assignment or evaluating news leads and news tips to develop unique content.
•Gathering and verifying factual information regarding stories through interviews, observation, and research.
•Report, write, capture visual content, edit and produce stories for multiple platforms on deadline for all digital channels.
•Shoot video and still photos to illustrate stories.
•Edit or assist in editing videos for all multimedia platforms.
•Provide live reports/ crossing from site of events.
•Write and produce quality news stories for multiple media platforms as per the style guide.
•Generating new stories as well as developing and moving on stories already in the news.
•Producing content for use both on-air and online.
•Assist in the planning and production of all news/current affairs across platforms including packages, special reports and on-air radio programmes where required.

Online sourcing & compilation:
•Providing original online content on all digital platforms.
•Ensure relevant news stories are reflected online.
•Ensure accuracy by verification of facts.
•Provide briefs on self-initiated stories being pursued.
•Writing original online content.
•Exchanging of online content with ECR
•Editing and publishing of online video content.

News Content & Coverage:
•Monitor and approach multiple sources to gather local and national content on a daily basis to ensure that the newsroom is covering all relevant events.
•Source, research and verify newsworthy stories/content.
•Attend relevant press conferences
•Build up and maintain contact database.
•Maintain a good relationship with newsmakers, various departmental and organisational spokespeople.

Team Participation:
•Ensure continuity through the various news shifts.
•Ensure all relevant stories are followed up and passed on through the different shifts.
•Contributes positively to the news team and station.
•Constant communication, interaction and feedback with colleagues.
•Contribute stories to the forward planning diary.

General:
•Execute any tasks that may reasonably be expected.
•Assist in various areas of the news department.
•Attend news diary meetings daily.
•Report from the field as well as work on the news desk.
•Work shifts according to shift roster.
•Required to work on weekends in accordance to shift roster as required.
•Participate in station promotions as and when required.

Requirements:
•Relevant qualification in Journalism or equivalent.
•4 – 5 years (related experience in a newsroom (desk & field).
•Fluent in English, exceptional writing and language skills.
•Valid driver’s licence.
•Advanced knowledge of multimedia and social media tools, video and digital platforms.
