Kalahari.com builds and operates an ecommerce shop that powers multiple categories with a broad range of products and prices that are sold either for our own account or via our marketplace third party model.

As we thrive for fast growth our buying and merchandise teams are constantly improving the customer experience by aligning customer buying behaviour and demand with category range plans, promotions, price optimization, stock planning, improving the supply chain etc.


This position is based in Cape Town.

Job description
Analyzing consumer buying patterns and predicting future range and promotions
Working closely with the category manager and junior category manager / planner to track sales to budget and plan range, stock levels and promotions accordingly
Regularly reviewing performance indicators, e.g. sales, costs and discount levels
Managing plans for stock levels
Reacting to changes in demand
Reacting to changes in logistics
Meeting suppliers and negotiating terms of contract
Maintaining relationships with existing suppliers and sourcing new suppliers for future products
Liaising with other departments within the organization to ensure projects are completed
Writing reports and forecasting sales levels
Presenting new ranges to senior retail managers
Using dashboards and reports, the incumbent should be able to analyse and interpret data to improve business
This is a contract role for 6 months.


Desired Skills and Experience

Keen interest in product preferably online retail
Good understanding of retail and online
A detailed approach to work
Sound negotiation , organizing, interpersonal, communication skills
Strong affiliation to systems, utilizing them to increase productivity in line with the merchandise strategy
Ability to deal with suppliers
Competency in all computer packages, i.e. Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet
Proven decision-making ability
Ability to work as part of a team
Strong business acumen and merchant thinking
Advanced Excel Skills
Promptly identify any/all deviations from merchandising standards and react accordingly
Collaborative nature/ team player, but at the same time is a decision maker who can operate independently (within the parameters of the business)
Strong customer focus
Senior certificate
Relevant degree / diploma advantageous
At least 1 year retail buying experience, in a consumer environment
Sound knowledge of online and/or retail environment and strong networks in the wholesale industry
