The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) is offering two scholarship opportunities to South African students to study at KAIST. The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) is responsible for nominations from South Africa.
KOREA: Advanced Institute of Science and Technology Scholarship
The scholarship covers tuition, health insurance and a basic living allowance; and is open to undergraduates in this call for applications. Successful applicants will be expected to cover the cost of travel to the Republic of Korea and additional living expenses.
Who Can Apply

  • South African citizens in good health with a strong academic record;
  • Must have university entrance on NSC certificate and should have performed exceptionally well in his/her previous studies with minimum 75% average mark achieved, excluding Life Orientation;
  • Applicants must have achieved a minimum of 75% in Mathematics and Physical Science;
  • Available to study in Korea from September 2018;
  • Must have applied for the study programme at KAIST on a full-time basis;
  • Intend to return to South Africa at the end of your studies

What the Scholarship offers:
The scholarship covers tuition, health insurance and a basic living allowance.

Successful applicants will be expected to cover the cost of travel to the Republic of Korea and additional living expenses (estimated at between R2000 and R3000 per month).

No additional funding is available from the Department of Higher Education and Training.

How to Apply:
There are two parts to the application process.

  1. Submit KAIST application online HERE
  2. Complete the DHET application form and email it together with the following documents to [email protected]:
    • Completed application form
    • Copy of Matric certificate
    • Copy of ID
    • Proof of online KAIST application
