Lily of the Valley is a nonprofit organisation and is registered as a Child and Youth Care Centre for up to 120 orphaned, vulnerable children and youth. Its mission is to discover and nurture the true potential in each child and young adult placed in its care.

Job Title: Fundraiser or Grant Writer
Job Location: KwaZulu Natal
Report to: CEO

The Fundraiser / Grant Writer will mainly work autonomously from home, to maintain existing and define new fundraising opportunities and priorities, and pursue them in order to help sustain and increase funding to our Children’s Home. The CEO will provide oversight and guidance.

Responsibilities:

• Manage the relationship with the current donors/partners, including maintaining a donor database and providing donor care (in the form of thank you letters, quarterly newsletters)
• Write and submit fundraising proposals both nationally and internationally
• Oversee our Sponsor a Child programme with the help of staff and local and US volunteers
• Provide detailed reports to the funders and the board of directors with respect to the organisation’s progress, as required

Requirements:

• Be a self-starter, ability to work on your own and self-manage
• Strong relational, interpersonal skills to provide donor care for current and future donors, from churches to foundation grants managers, Trusts and high net worth individuals
• Be a multitasker and have the ability to be flexible in your role and wear more than one ‘hat’ should this be required
• Manage (or work collectively with the Communications manager) communications
• Periodically attend fundraising workshops/events to increase knowledge and broaden network
• work collaboratively with other Children’s homes to share best practises and improve methods
• Be passionate about helping vulnerable children
• Have prior experience with fundraising both nationally / internationally
