Job Title: Product Manager – MRM Coated Steel, Steel & Influencers
Location: Athi River, Machakos, Kenya
Reference #: MRM/MKTG/028/2022
Contract Type: Permanent
a)To manage our marketing & business development function for Domestic and Export customers for Group and non Group customers, including all influencing communities
(specifiers, architects & developers across the East Africa Coils Market)
b)To oversee the marketing, branding, advertising, merchandising and promotional staff activities for in line with local and Safal Group plans (and working jointly with MRM
Building solutions respectively).
c)To identify and develop new market segments for coated products including market analysis, competitor profiles, product profiles and segment marketing plans.
d) To work cross-functionally in ensuring new product development implementation and broad organizational understanding of key market drivers and needs.
e)To develop and execute a company wide influencer marketing strategy, including partnerships with professional associations, industry regulators and the building
f)Manage and implement the MRM Coated steel Online strategy
g)To lead in the Events Management function at MRM as well as representing the Company in Conferences, Seminars and other Corporate events.
h)Support Management of commercial decision making by maintaining an updated library of current market information
a)Market and Brand Leadership:
1.Working with the Coils BU Management, provide marketing inputs to the BU Business Plan to support business growth and achievement of BU objectives
2.Develop a marketing strategy, with brand and portfolio objectives, strategies and plans in line with Corporate Objectives and the Company Business Plan.
3.In conjunction with Management develop Brand and Product development plans linked to Coils Marketing plan, specifically focused on Zincal and new Color Coated products.
4.Ensure coils market development by conducting market research, mapping and understanding new target segments for additional Colour products.
5.Ensure Market maps are completed for all major markets / segments / countries and competitive profiles developed together with Segment Value Propositions.
6.Establish and maintain a good relationship with stakeholders (internal and external both direct and indirect)
7.Ensure compliance with relevant legal and statutory requirements, meet principles of sound corporate governance and internationally accepted environmental, health, safety and
8.Plan and administer the firm’s Marketing budget.
9.Manage agencies, suppliers, the media, service providers and partners
b)Strategic marketing plan development and implementation:
1.Develop and maintain product, marketing and pricing strategies, systems and processes
2.Implement the strategies, systems and processes for successful entry, growth and sustainability in domestic and export markets
3.Develop the Company’s marketing position to support its strategy
4.Establish and maintain national and international relationships and networks with key stakeholders and influencers (including venture partner organizations, service providers and
potential customer organizations) to support the marketing effort.
c)Strategic market analysis and expansion:
1.Provide marketing related information required for decision making, budgeting and other activities
2.Maintain a market and industry trend database
3.Conduct market research and screening of potential markets
4.Continuously analyze markets and identify marketing-related risks that can adversely influence the company’s marketing positions
5.Implement and manage risk mitigation strategies
6.Conduct Corrosion & Product Performance Mapping in Kenya by establishing corrosion profile and product performance criteria for specification (including Painted products
7.Work cross functionally to ensure product development plans are achieved.
1.Conduct due diligence activities on product and segment opportunities and make recommendations to management
2.Development of comprehensive product Literature, Technical data sheets and Technical Product Training programmes for use both internally and externally. Rolling out of MRM
Coils new Warranty system and development of new local Painted product colour names.
3.Negotiate marketing framework agreements where required in a holistic manner encompassing all value elements.
4.Work with the team in ensuring MRM Website development and content management that meets MRM Coated Steel requirements.
5.Working with the Building Solutions team to develop relationships in a structured way by ensuring that Projects are specified in the initial stages, including Technical market
education programme covering MRM Coil products and relevant Institutions.
6.Ensure all events done at MRM Coated are carried out professionally and efficiently logistically and in relations to costs.
a.Minimum academic qualification: Bachelor of Business Degree in Marketing
b.Qualifications as an added advantage: A Masters in Business Administration
c.Professional registration: Member of the Marketing Society of Kenya or Chartered Institute of Marketing.
a.General work experience (years): Minimum of 10 years
b.Specific to the position (level/discipline/years): 5 years
Key competencies and skills:
a.Understanding of the relevant markets & value drivers pertaining to coil products.
b.Understanding domestic and international economic, political and commercial competitive environments
c.Knowledge in international trade, marketing concepts, strategy development/deployment and commercial processes/practices
d.Understanding marketing principles in detail including Segment Value Propositions and Brand marketing.
