Molteno Institute for Language and Literacy (The Institute) is a South African literacy NGO based in Johannesburg with footprints in some provinces and the African continent. The Institute is part of an education consortium selected to implement USAID funded Literacy Project in the Northwest and Limpopo provinces between 2017 to 2020.

Job Title: Research and Development Intern
Job Location: Houghton, Johannesburg
Start date: 1 December 2018

The purpose of the intern is to primarily support the Research & Development Unit in developing a variety of African language literacy materials for primary schools.

Requirements:

• Degree in Linguistics or must currently be in final year in Linguistics
• An understanding of basic linguistics and/or literacy and/or reading pedagogy
• Proficient in reading and writing in an African language (preferably a Nguni language)
• Proficient in reading and writing in English
• Computer Literacy: Microsoft Office
• Ability to manage a website in terms of editing and uploading content (alternately, applicant must be willing to be trained in these skills)
• Proficient at website management in terms of designing, editing and uploading content
• Proficient in reading and writing in an African language (preferably a Nguni language)
• Proficient in reading and writing in English

Interest in linguistics and/or literacy and/or reading pedagogy
