To constantly monitor the allocated nodes during a shift at the SMC and to ensure that MTN network faults are actioned to company requirements. To ensure that company policies and procedures are adhered to during the shift. To assist in the development of an automated and effective environment for the performance of SMC duties.

KPA duties

•Monitor the allocated network nodes effectively and promptly react to all network-related faults. This includes the actioning of all alarms and trouble tickets and adherence to procedures.
•Ensure that Telkom-related faults are correctly diagnosed and Interconnect Service Desk (ISD) procedures are closely followed.
•Assume responsibility for correctly forwarding trouble tickets to Radio Engineers, Operations and Maintenance Centre (OMC) personnel, High Level Support (HLS) and Value Added Systems (VAS) support. Follow up on these trouble tickets and ensure a speedy response.
•Report to the SMC Co-ordinator on duty and escalate serious and long outstanding faults for his attention.
•Act as interface to Customer Services and assist them with subscriber problems.
•Act as interface and provide SMC refs to Contractors, Field Engineers, OMC Engineers and other departments for planned work and access to sites and switches.
•Perform SMC duties as instructed by SMC Co-ordinator, e.g., correlation of ISD outages, adjustment of availability parameters, follow-up and clearing of specific network faults.
•Provide ideas and feedback on software tools, procedures and improvements to SMC functionality.
•Develop technically and personally through attendance of technical and company development courses.
•Any extra duties as given from time to time by the SMC Co-ordinator and SMC Manager.
•Shift work is part of the job description.
•Travelling for meetings and callouts to ensure the continuous operation of the SMC is required.

Educational requirements

A technical diploma or degree in light current, telecomms or a related field OR served a recognised telecomms apprenticeship and four years experience.

Experience required

Transmission or switching experience and some Network Management Centre experience. Must have industry specific knowledge (cellular, mobile, GSM, Telecommunications )
Ericsson AXE knowledge, all Microsoft office applications.
