Mission/Core purpose of the Job:

The Consultant, Treasury is a part of treasury, and would be responsible for activities related to the cash and debt management, forecasting and financial risk management.  The purpose of this job is to act as the subject matter expert for the cash management and forecasting functions at the CoE.

The Consultant, Treasury reports to the Senior Manager, Treasury. The position will interface with the CoE, Opco stakeholders and the Shared Services Hub (SSH) (not limited to) via Oracle workflows and non-Oracle workflows in order to ensure effective and efficient operations.

Key Job Responsibilities

Operational Delivery

Cash Management and Forecasting

–         Provide support to Opcos with financial risk management and cash forecasting

–         Prepare long term cash flow scenarios at defined intervals

–         Monitor long-term cash forecasts at defined periodic intervals

–         Update long-term cash forecasts based on the results of monitoring activities and changes in the assumptions

–         Assess the  appropriateness and need to open/close/change of bank accounts

–         Initiate and facilitate the  bank interface and setup based on bank account changes on the treasury management system for Group Companies

–         Assist with the daily cash flow management

Treasury Policy

–         Assist with the development, improvement and design of the MTN framework, policies, procedures and templates for hedging, investments and loans

–         Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities in Treasury Operations that improve performance of the function.

–         Operate within the broad levels provided in the approved Treasury policy.

–         Ongoing monitoring of assessment with respect to compliance

–         Develop solutions for subsidiaries (if required) within the policy guidance

Risk Management

–         Formulation of hedging strategies to minimizing the Group’s overall exposure to financial market risk (specifically interest rate and foreign exchange price risk);

–         Assess and advise on financial risk (interest rate and foreign exchange price risk) related to the funding structures for Group companies

–         Identify, assess and quantify the uncovered FX positions and/or Interest rate risk of Group companies

–         Obtaining and testing the validity of market prices

–         The optimal execution of approved risk management trades and strategies, that includes booking maintenance of trades on TMS

–         Evaluate, negotiate and implement structured products for risk management and yield enhancement

–         Preparation of  economic (mainly for African economies) and market analyses in support of the investment, liquidity management, financial market risk and borrowing activities of the Group companies

–         Review and provide guidance in terms of hedging options available and potentially being considered by Opcos

–         Review hedges nearing expiry and ensure that the appropriate action is taken by the Opco in line with the treasury policy 

Funding and Investments

–         The optimal execution of funding and investments (money market and loans, capital markets) trades,  including  booking and maintenance of those trades or deals on TMS for Group companies

–         Review and provide guidance to the Opcos in terms of investment options available and potentially being considered by Opco

–         Monitor the performance of investments made by Group companies and Opcos based on the performance of the investment and Investment arrangement

–         Review and monitor the compliance of Opcos to Investment arrangements and guidelines

Collaboration/Coordination

–         Perform business requirement analysis for master data  requirements / business intelligence reporting

– Assist in transformational initiatives within Finance CoEs, as applicable and drive the required change

Education / Business Degree

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance and/or equivalent
  • Post graduate degree in finance and / or equivalent
  • Relevant professional  qualification (advantageous) Registered Person Exams (RPE)

Work Experience

  • 4 – 7 years relevant working experience
  • 2 – 4 years’ experience within a telecommunication environment especially in Treasury.
  • Experience in continuous improvement through the implementation of best practices (Treasury)
  • Experience in treasury leading practices and trends
