Nexia SAB&T seeks to appoint a dynamic individual on a fixed term contract at the National Department of Health (In Pretoria) to fill the following position:

BIOSTATISTICIAN / EPIDEMIOLOGIST (REF: 05/10/20) CTC: R998 008 per annum

The National Health Laboratory Service is the major provider of diagnostic services to the state health sector. In this role, the NHLS has been fundamental in identifying, validating and implementing diagnostic platforms for SARS-CoV2 including serological testing. In their role, they have undertaken to provide serological survey data to the department of health nationally and provincially to inform their planning and decision making.

Qualification & Experience:

• MSc Epidemiology /Biostatistics (NQF level 9). A PhD in Epidemiology /Biostatistics (NQF level 10) (Desirable)
• 3-5 years post degree experience in Biostatistics
• At least 3 years’ research and data analysis experience
• Publication record (at least 2 publications)
• Knowledge of Biostatistics and Epidemiology
• Sound knowledge of statistical packages preferably SAS or STATA:SQL and advanced Excel
• Knowledge of record database management and data analysis
• Good scientific
• Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to process scientific and medical data
• Able to work independently
• Expertise in manipulating and analysis of data
• Capability of communicating technical concepts clearly, concisely and understandably

Roles & Responsibilities

• Responsible for providing biostatistical and epidemiological support to the SARS-CoV2 programme and to the NHLS
• Participate in planning of seroprevalence surveys in conjunction with the Project Manager and Principal Investigator including determination of sample sizes
• Review and advise on statistical analyses of data for compilation into report projects
• Assist with interpretation of data
• Engage with external collaborators and provide support for grant applications and or progress reports where required
• Engage with stakeholders to provide technical information
• Provision of technical reports and peer-reviewed papers
