Cullinan Diamond Mine is situated in the town of Cullinan 30km east from Pretoria. The mine is currently mining at a
depth of 747 meters using mechanized trackless block-cave mining.
Job Grade: D1
Reference Nr: CUL122
Job Description: To organise routine ventilation and occupational hygiene observations, study the results, visit problem areas and
undertake special projects as and when required.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Ensure routine measurements pertaining to the ventilation standards and regulations are performed
Co-ordinate the operational control of the Occupational Health Centre and medical surveillance programme
Organise sampling of general atmosphere (air quality surveys) and underground water
Perform quarterly checks on underground fire-fighting equipment, interpret results and make recommendations
Update Legal emergency plans
Draw up layouts on auxiliary ventilation changeovers
Responsible for calibration of measuring instruments
Manage and control subordinates
Review and revise Codes of Practice
Participate in cost saving initiatives
Responsible for long and short term planning with regard to ventilation requirements
Maintain and enforce the Mine’s Codes of Practice, Standards, Procedures and report any observations of this not being done
Ensure personal and co-workers’ adherence and compliance to Security and Company’s SHE objectives
Minimum Requirements:
Grade 12 with Maths and Science
Advanced Certificate in Mine Environmental Control
Valid Drivers’ License (EB/Code 08)
Minimum of 5 years relevant underground experience
PC Literate in MS Office Suite and Windows System
Other Skills/Competencies:
Independent, proactive thinker, self-starter and have the ability to do own job planning
Able to work in a team
Good verbal and written communication skills in English
Good interpersonal skills
