Job Title: Inequality Campaign Coordinator

Job Location: South Africa

The Role

The Campaign Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the implementation of the Inequality Programme campaign and monitoring that all the activities of the programme will be implemented as per the approved Programme framework and operational plans· The Campaign Coordinator will oversee three major campaigns from design, coordination and implementation.

1)   Food Justice:

Behind the Barcode Campaign: The campaign will enable smallholder farmers, especially women, to improve access to markets and Increase their bargaining power versus other actors in supply chains and increase their incomes for better livelihoods.

2)   Decent Work and Alternative Livelihoods:

Economic Justice Unit has been in the process of coordinating Oxfam South Africa’s first inequality report on women in work alongside its predominantly community based organisation partners. One of the outcomes of the report is the design, coordination and implementation of campaigns that promote decent work for women along side our partners.

3)   Social Wage Campaign:

The social wage campaign aims to fight for better quality and access to free and universal social or public goods. The main thrust of the campaign is to ensure fiscal or budget justice for universal public goods such as education, healthcare and social protection to contribute to inequality reduction.

4)   Building a Feminist Movement for Economic Justice

Oxfam South Africa is a feminist organisation and feminist principles and practices cut across our programming and campaigns. Therefore, the campaign coordinator will also be responsible for coordinating the building of a feminist movement for economic justice across our campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinating the implementation of the mentioned programme’s campaigns;
  • Planning and scheduling campaign’s timelines and milestones using appropriate tools;
  • Monitoring that all the activities of the programme’s campaigns will be implemented according to the approved Programme framework and operational plan;
  • Planning the monthly activities and, if necessary, reschedule the timing and the contents of the activities in order to achieve the expected results of the programme’s campaigns;
  • Drafting progress reports in compliance with the internal monitoring procedures of OI and the donors;
  • Liaising with identified key stakeholders to ensure their active involvement in the programme’s campaigns;
  • Building feminist organizing and capacity building platform for economic justice
  • Assuring that all the inputs provided by the Programme Partners and the identified stakeholders are taken into consideration;
  • Managing all of the administrative aspects of the programme’s campaigns according to the internal Oxfam procedures and the criteria of the Donor;
  • Assuring a work team approach and a constant and full involvement of the local communities in the implementation of the activities;
  • Managing the logistics of the Programme’s campaign’s and help in preparing all related meetings and events, including the procurement of goods and services and the coordination of the services providers;
  • Maintaining and updating the programme’s archive and other informational and promotional materials for dissemination to different target audience;
  • Assisting external Monitoring and Evaluation teams during their mission;
  • Performing other related issues as and when required;
  • Doing all things necessary in order to uphold and promote the reputation of the Employer in the industry and to promote the goodwill of the Employer to the general public.
  • They will perform other duties as may be assigned. This position may require some travelling.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Essential skills of candidates: 

  • At least of campaign design and management related activities in the public or private sector;
  • Excellent knowledge of social movement landscape in South Africa, particularly feminist social movements.
  • Computer skills: Proficiency in current office software applications and ability to operate e-mail / Internet systems;
  • Social media campaign competencies.
  • Language: Excellent command in written and spoken English and excellent knowledge of spoken other local South African languages.

Crosscutting competences:

  • Be flexible and able to work in a demanding, fast-paced work environment;
  • Possess excellent communication skills (be capable of writing reports, memos, briefings and other written communications);
  • Have excellent time management and attention to details;
  • Be able to manage relationships (working in teams, communicating information and ideas, conflict and self-management);
  • Be capable of managing multiple responsibilities and demands;
  • Have a strong Problem Solving capacity;
  • Have ability to work in team and in a multicultural context;
  • Experience working with Oxfam;
  • Working experience with a Non-Profit Organization.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Economics or Development Studies, or Sociology, Human Rights Law, Gender Studies
  • An MA is an advantage
