Title: Manager: Communications & Brand – Africa (Based in South Africa or Kenya)

Reporting Line: Head of Communications and the Head of Brand & Digital – Africa

Main Purpose of the role
Reporting to the Head of Communications and the Head of Brand & Digital, the Manager Communications & Brand – Africa will define and guide the strategy for integrated (internal and external) communications, website content, stakeholder and public relations messages and collateral to consistently articulate the brand messaging of Philips Africa. The manager corporate communications will work closely with a peer group of marketing, brand and digital experts within the organization as the communications partners and PR agencies on a variety of strategic initiatives.

Accountabilities
Define and execute communications strategies and tactics for building the brand reputation of Philips Africa including Philips healthtech and lighting working closely with the head of communications, head of brand & digital andbusiness marketing teams.

Lead the generation and adaptation of online content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action. Decide who, where, and when to disseminate.

Coordinate webpage maintenance—ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularly on intranet/ internet

Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, and Philips Africa’s intranet/ internet sites

Develop and maintain platforms for multi-stakeholder relationship building with top–level media and other relevant stakeholders.

Align resources to achieve the communications strategy, including staff, budgets and a roadmap of activities.

Track and measure the level of engagement within the network over time

Coordinate and organize annual meetings that engage the network’s discreet audiences

 

Qualification
Matric / Grade 12 or SAQA Accredited Equivalent
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or English (Essential)
Professional marketing qualification will be an added advantage

 

Experience:
At least 6 – 8 years related communications experience (Essential)
Communications experience in a midsize to large corporate setting preferred; background in professional services or PR / Creative agency experience a plus
Knowledge of the Africa continent crucial
Able to demonstrate ability to generate owned media and relationships with tier 1 media across Africa will be an added advantage
Knowledge of the NGO / Not for profit ecosystem on the continent will be required
50% travel required mainly in Africa

 

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Highly proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including PowerPoint (required)
Experience with website content management and social media (required)
Experience with SharePoint preferred; HTML a plus
Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills
Strong editorial judgment and effective decision-making
Strong strategic thinking, organizational and problem-solving skills
Willingness to try new ideas; highly creative
Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to work quality; strives for continuous improvement
Team player, with ability to succeed in a highly collaborative environment
Ability to work effectively under pressure, in a fast-paced environment
Thorough command of best practices in internal communications
