The Rape Crisis Cape Town Trust is a social profit organisation that promotes an end to violence against women, specifically rape, and assists women to achieve their right to live free of violence by reducing the trauma experienced by rape survivors, encouraging reporting of rape incidents, facilitating the active engagement of communities in challenging high rape rates and advocating for a stronger criminal justice system.

Job Title: Counselling Coordinator 
Job Location: Khayelitsha, Cape Town
Reports to: Operations Manager
Salary: R14 500 to R16 000 per month, total cost to company package depending on skills and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment, training, supervision and support of the lay counsellors
  • Coordinate and attend stakeholders meeting and engagements, as well as liaising with stakeholders
  • Assist with data verification of cases for reporting purposes
  • Play a part in the successful implementation of all operational plans and activities that advance the organisation as a whole
  • Responsible for counselling project in Khayelitsha
  • Coordination of volunteers and students
  • Recruitment, screening, training and supervision of new volunteers
  • The development of intervention strategies for survivors of sexual violence
  • Participate in organisational research and other overarching projects
  • Counselling awareness raising
  • Facilitate support groups for survivors
  • Strategic networking
  • Provide consultancy services to other service providers on request
  • Participate in television and radio programmes as required
  • Participate in media interviews as required

Requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (Social Work, Education or Psychology)
  • Experience in NGO coordination, management and counselling
  • Experience in facilitation and/or teaching with diverse groups including professionals
  • Minimum one-year experience in programme and/or materials development
  • Networking skills
  • Passion for and commitment to gender based violence issues
  • Knowledge and understanding of sexual violence and gender based violence
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
  • Valid Driver’s licence and own transport
  • Fluency in English
  • Proficient in isiXhosa
  • Counselling skills
  • Ability to deal with multiple activities in an organised and systematic way
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with people at all levels
  • Ability to coach and mentor others through the use of effective feedback
  • Ability to keep up with the latest trends in trauma response and rape
  • Concerned with their own active self-development
  • Ability to adhere to clear values and principles
