Reporting to the Superintendent: Safety, as the Business Partner: HSE, you will provide an effective HSE service, in consultation with HSE Specialists, to a designated Division in accordance with the respective service delivery requirements in order to ensure optimum HSE performance and license to operate within the Business Unit.
JOB OBJECTIVES:
– Assist with the monitoring of compliance to identified HSE local and national legal requirements
– Ensure that local and national legal HSE requirements are identified and communicated as well as understood
– Manage HSE auditing, inspection and monitoring process
– Manage and perform comprehensive HSE systems and compliance audits
– Ensure all HSE actions are assigned and tracked to closeout
– Facilitate and conduct HSE incident investigations
– Facilitate HSE hazard and risk assessment processes
– Advise and support line on HSE system and governance matters
– Assist with contractor pre-assessment and routine HSE compliance assessments
– Perform all duties as required by the Chief Safety Officer in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act
– Advise in projects pertaining to HSE requirements
– Capacity building of Health & Safety Representatives within each division
– Coordinate HSE information flow between the respective departments within the relevant division as well as between the division and the HSE department
– Review division HSE performance and report to management
– Interpret and assist division in implementing annual HSE plans
– Ensure a relentless focus on zero harm
– Manage all incidents and associated actions on the Rio Tinto Business Solution (SAP) for each division
OUTPUTS:
– Successful and compliant HSE audits, incident investigations and risk assessments
– Compliant HSE systems
– Well informed and advised Health & Safety Representatives as well as line on HSE related matters
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
– National Diploma / BTech Degree in Safety Management / Degree in Natural Sciences / Engineering qualification with HSE experience
– 3 years HSE experience in a mining or industrial environment
– Exposure to ISO and OHSAS
– Completed NOSA / SAMTRAC will be an advantage
– Insight into the processes and operations of mining and the related HSE issues
– Drivers License: EB (Code 08)
TECHNICAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
– Computer literate: MS Office while SAP is preferred
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills
– Well-developed analytical skills and ability
– Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
– Strong relationship building skills
– Specialized knowledge on South African Safety, Health & Environment legislation
