SARS Graduate Trainee Programme

The Graduate Programme places the successful candidate/s in the Employment Relations division of SARS to provide a combination of structured learning and workplace experience. Trainees are given a 24-month contract and receive a monthly stipend. At the end of the 24-month contract, trainees who meet SARS’s recruitment requirements may apply for available vacancies in SARS.

The Graduate Programme is aimed at LLB Graduates who wish to pursue a career within the Employment Relations/Labour Relations environment.

  • gather evidence to formulate defense or to initiate legal actions
  • handle strikes and lock-outs
  • offer advice on collective bargaining strategies, unilateral implementation of lock-outs and industrial action
  • offer advice on implementation of employment equity and discrimination legislation
  • offer advice on implementation of skills development
  • provide advice and written opinions on points of law
  • provide advice on labour law implications of acquisitions, mergers and transfers of business

Knowledge

  • corporate laws and regulations
  • court and tribunal proceedings
  • dispute resolution
  • negotiation principles
  • labour law
  • the basic conditions of employment
