Purpose of the job: To create a safe stable underground working environment in all the collieries of Sasol Mining
This is a middle management position with substantial operational duties and responsibilities.
Main focus of this job is to design/develop and assist in implementing systems, procedures and techniques that will ensure mine stability of all coal mines of Sasol Mining. This will include inputs into the training material as well as underground coaching of all levels of personnel. Due to the nature of the post the incumbent will operate with a wide variety of individuals and in varying group sizes.
Required outputs: Functional
-Management of Codes of Practice and Standard Operational Procedures
-Manage auditing and quality control systems as per legal requirements
-Assist in the administration of legal and financial activities to comply to legal and statutory requirements
-Research and development with regards to best practices as well as identification and forecast of problem areas.
-Conducting routine monitoring and special investigations to ensure a safe working place and conditions.
-Planning and designing on the short and long term to ensure stability throughout the required period of operation.
-Manage training of underground personnel in strata control with emphasis on the identification and management of risk.
-Forecasting of ground conditions to ensure realistic planning.
-Adherence to statutory requirements by performing continuous risk
-Ensure acceptable solutions and reporting
-Liaise and communicate with all levels of personnel and external agencies / companies
-Influencing and negotiating of solutions
-Ability to handle crisis situations
-Acute visual observation skills
-Balancing of conflicting interests
-Link analytically obtained information from various sources to solve problems
-Establish understanding and acceptance to reach objectives
Qualifications and expertise required (Must):
-Certificate of Competence: Rock Engineering
-Advanced Certificate in Rock Engineering
-Degree Mining/Geology (wish for a level 5)
-Graduate Diploma in (Rock) Engineering
-Certificate of competency – Mine Manager (wish for a level 5)
Specific experience required:
-24 to 48 months as Mining Rock Engineer
-Practical experience in Rock Mechanics and underground Coal Mining
-Rock Engineering function experience in more than one Mine
-Experience in Geology field will be an advantage
-Deal Making (Negotiation)
-Creativity .Tolerance for stress/of frustration
