The Supporter Development Manager will lead the efforts of the fundraising team to build greater levels of engagement and loyalty from our existing and new supporters. Working with our Direct Mail agency and other third-party providers the incumbent will lead on shifting the focus of SCSA from acquisition to long-term engagement and life-time-value.

Child Protection Level: 2
Travel Requirements: 25% local and international
Budget Responsibilities: R 2 mil.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage the relationship and service provision from Downes Murray International, our direct mail agency
  • Oversee the calendar for all supporter communications and make sure production and distribution deadlines are hit
  • Work with the outsource database manager to ensure new reports are developed as required and data-driven insights can be gained and decisions made
  • Manage the Supporter Care Officer in their daily activities to all communications and reports are being processed
  • Ensure digital tools communications platforms and continued and relationships are upheld
  • Implement and oversee a part-time upgrade and reactivation telemarketing team based in the Pretoria office
  • Engage with the global donor development community and represent Save the Children South Africa in global forums as required
  • Ensure reports are being produced that accurately represent the efficiency of fundraising tests and campaigns
  • Track and manage income and expenditure reports to ensure budgets are being maximized but not exceeded
  • Undertake formal and informal peer and market research to ensure Save the Children South Africa has the best intelligence available to make strategic decisions
  • Develop and implement direct marketing tests to improve loyalty and engagement among our supporters
  • Complete any other tasks, and follow legal instructions from line manager

Minimum Professional Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing a fundraising program, marketing campaign, or similar
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience managing external suppliers that must deliver on financial KPIs
  • Previous fundraising role an added advantage
  • A proven track record of success in a driven and fast-paced marketing or sales environment is a must
  • Demonstrable experience in testing and scaling up fundraising or marketing campaigns

  • Experience with digital and traditional marketing tools and techniques
  • Excellent management skills
  • Fluency in English with additional language desirable
  • Knowledge of current best practices in fundraising
