Job Title: Education Project Manager
Fixed Term: 26 months
Grade: 4
Reports to: Provincial Manager
Base: Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal
Child Protection Level: 3
Travel Requirements: 40% Domestic and international when required
Budget Responsibilities: In excess of 1 m per year

Job Purpose:

The incumbent will be responsible for managing the literacy and numeracy project at the Early Childhood Development (ECD) and Foundation Phase (Grades R-3) levels in the eThekwini north district of the province around Tongaat/Hambanathi. In addition, he/she will be responsible for overall project planning and implementation, managing programme quality, financial and narrative reporting and liaison with relevant stakeholders and community mobilisation.

The Project Manager will be responsible for managing partnerships and service providers at different provincial levels. He/she will work under the supervision of the Provincial Manager and in close collaboration with the Education Programme Manager and the MEAL Manager. A fair amount of travel comes with the position, predominantly in KZN. He/she will report to the Provincial Manager.

Key Results Areas, Tasks, And Performance Indicators

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the planning, implementation and monitoring of the project
  • Co-ordinate the development of resources and material required for the project activities
  • Initiate and maintain strong relationships with government and other stakeholders
  • Provide leadership to the Project Team to enable achievement of project goals
  • Develop and mentor team members to ensure project quality, including project quality benchmarks
  • Represent SCSA in external meetings
  • Ensure that narrative progress reports are prepared for submission to donors
  • Manage project budgets in line with donor conditions and project plans
  • Oversee data collection efforts in collaboration with M&E and research team
  • Ensure lessons learnt are documented and shared with all relevant stakeholders
  • Conduct other related responsibilities as the Provincial Manager may assign

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or social sciences
  • Recognized project management qualification will be an added advantage
  • At least 5 or more years working experience in education, specifically ECD and Foundation Phase
  • Early literacy and mathematics education experience
  • Management experience
  • Knowledge of relevant education and social policies in South Africa
  • Valid South African Driver’s licence
