Save the Children South Africa (SCSA) is implementing a programme that seeks to ensure that all children benefit from a strengthened child – rights system that delivers and monitor the realisation of their rights, and ensure that children experience less violence in schools, homes and communities. The programme also aims to support children to influence Local, Provincial and National Governance to ensure their survival, learning and protection.

Through this programme, SCSA intends to push for increased public investment in children and reduction of violence against children in both school and home settings.

Job Title: Financial Officer
Location: Limpopo Provincial Office (Polokwane)
Grade: Grade 4
Duration: 36 Months
Reports to: Provincial Manager
Child Protection Level: 2
Travel Requirements: On a need in support of the Limpopo Provincial office
Budget Responsibilities: None
Asset Responsibilities: Own assets and those used by others

Purpose of the Job
We are looking for a Finance Officer to take charge of the financial management of our company by administering accounting operations and practice to meet legal requirements. The purpose of this role is to provide technical financial support and financial administration for the provincial office, as well as all the projects and programmes in the Province taking into consideration the Financial Management Act and the SCSA financial policy and procurement policy.
Ultimately, the finance Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our financial transactions and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer daily cash flow requirement for office & projects (Keep accurate records for all daily transactions)
  • Process invoices, properly referencing, organizing and filling payment vouchers and supporting documents
  • Ensure books are balanced on a weekly basis (income and Expenditure GL)
  • Support programmes in preparation and submission of cash flow projections in line with the approved plans
  • Submit month end and year end returns to head office in Pretoria
  • Review monthly Financial monitoring sheet per project to identify budget alignment, e.g. over and underspending, etc.
  • Ensuring adherence to payment protocol & process, including all supporting documents
  • Archiving the financial and grant documents as per retention schedule.
  • Review and implement organisation financial policies
  • Assist with budget preparation and budget monitoring
  • Participate in financial audits

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must have passed Grade 12
  • Minimum Diploma in Accountancy or Equivalent financial management qualification
  • Proven 2 – 3 years’ work experience as a Finance Officer or similar role experience (experience working in NGO will be an added advantage)
