1. SENIOR ROAD WORKER X5 POSTS REF NO: DRPW 133/2015
Component: Road Works
SALARY : R 103 494 per annum (Level 4)
CENTRE : In-House Construction (Grahamstown)

REQUIREMENTS : The minimum ABET level is required, 1 – 2 years road construction
environment experience, Ability to communicate effectively and report
complaints, Good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, Driver’s license
Code EC will be an added advantage

DUTIES : Perform flag duties, Assist the grader operator with cutting final level, Assist
dozer operator with cutting earthworks levels, Perform tally works duties,
Perform pothole patching duties, Assist the water truck driver with filling of
water trucks, Ensure that machines and plant are cleaned daily

 

2. SENIOR ROAD WORKER X3 POSTS REF NO: DRPW 135/2015
Component: Roads Branch
Sub-component: In-House Maintenance
SALARY : R103 49 per annum (Level 4)

CENTRE : Alfred Nzo Regional Office (X1 Post Mount Frere, X1 Post Bizana, X1 Post Maluti)

REQUIREMENTS : Minimum of Grade 7 (Standard 5 Report), Operator certificate i.e. Grader,
TLB, Dozer, double diff truck or Excavator and with 5 years practical
experience in operating roads construction equipment. A valid code EC, EC1
(Code 14). Knowledge And Skills: Working knowledge of the utilization of
earth-moving plant and Departmental of roads prism. Knowledge of relevant
legislations governing provincial roads in the Eastern Cape Province will be
an added advantage. Ability to operate heavy equipment in a safe and
appropriate manner (Heavy equipment may include double diff trucks, front
end loaders, dozers, graders or compactors other pieces of equipment).
Ability to communicate effectively and record complaints. Sound knowledge
in Health and Safety regulation pertaining to road works. Good
communication and conflict resolution skills.

DUTIES : Operate heavy equipment in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant
legislation, policy and procedures. Perform daily safety and maintenance
checks. Clean equipment as scheduled and/required. Ensure equipment is
safe and surely stored. Advise the Department of Roads and Public Works
foreman of any requirements for maintenance or repairs. Participate in
routine maintenance. Practice workplace safety and maintain inventory.
Maintain roads and transportation systems in order to ensure safe roadways
within the assigned area and perform other related duties, complete daily
work return(logs) accurately and forward to supervisor, must be prepared to
render assistance after hours in the event of emergency or when required to
do so.
NOTE : NB: All shortlisted candidates will be tested for appropriate driving skills as
per some of the above indicated earthmovings plant by mechanicals section.
