Based in Johannesburg, South African Guide-Dogs Association seeks to fill the following vacancy:

South African Guide-Dogs Association is searching for an experienced Head of Fundraising with excellent leadership skills and networking abilities. The Head of Fundraising will be responsible for building good relationships with prospective donors and clients across multiple sectors, communicating with the broader public and internal teams and drawing up plans to ensure annual targets are met. This individual should be well organized, proactive, and have the ability to inspire those around them.

 

 

 

 

Job Title: Head of Fundraising

Job Summary:

The Head of Fundraising must have substantial fundraising and management experience particularly at a c-suite level, a talent for building relationships and a proven track record in securing funds from a variety of sources including corporates, foundations, trusts and major individual donors. Experience in development of an individual donor programmes including donor marketing is also an advantage.

Key responsibilities and duties:

Strategy and planning
Lead the development of a long-term fundraising strategy to achieve agreed long term organisational goals
Partner with the Head of Marketing in developing the annual fundraising planning process to produce effective strategies to achieve income targets across the range of revenue streams
Identify new potential income streams and produce strategies to access these funds
Fundraising
Set targets
Conducting research on who is out there and potential fundraising opportunities
Writing customised funding proposals and submitting these to potential donors, including writing case studies to support proposal requests
Explore all fundraising channels and streams for new donor acquisition
Establish and implement tracking procedures for each fundraising programme/channel to ensure that fundraising targets are met
Oversee the management of fundraising income and ensure production of effective, high quality proposals and reports
Relationship Management
Establish positive relationships with clients in every sector, including government representatives and members of the media
Build a CRM donor database for a corporates, legacies and trusts and update individual donor information as needed.
Develop and maintain an effective CRM programme for the development of relationships, ongoing communication and retention
Marketing and PR
Partner with the marketing team to develop high-impact and innovative donor acquisition campaigns and recruitment drives
Provide opportunities and recommend innovative use of digital / new media activities (SMS, MMS, WAP, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc) for donor acquisition
Evaluate the effectiveness of specific events and fundraising campaigns to determine which ones work well and which ones should be abandoned
Prepare press releases to submit to the local newspaper and ensure the release always goes up on the company website and social media accounts
Pursue efforts to keep GDA’s public image positive, which can entail promoting events regularly
Organizing and attending non-profit events and networking with relevant stakeholders
Financial Planning and Budget Management
Produce cost-effective budgets to achieve action plans
Develop and maintain income and expenditure tracking and evaluation systems
Ensure the Fundraising Department is kept within budget
The Head of Fundraising must possess the following requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing or related field
Evidence of Continued Professional Development relevant to the role purpose and level.
At least 8 years’ experience in a similar role
Demonstrable track record of Strategic Fundraising that has directly resulted in increased income for an organisation
Successful, significant and relevant achievement at management level in a comparable NPO/national/international organisation
Proven track record of meeting challenging income targets
Proven ability to build, manage and develop key stakeholder and donor relationships.
Experience of developing and implementing strategic and business plans
Demonstrated experience in data analytics
Working knowledge of CRM software will be an added advantage
