The Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) is a leader in seabird rehabilitation, research and oiled wildlife response and achieves this internationally recognised work through applying high veterinary standards and compassionate care.

Job Title: Bird Rehabilitator
Job Location: Cape Town

Responsibilities:

  • Daily care and treatment of different types of seabirds of all ages including after-hours on-call duty
  • Clean bird enclosures, pools and the maintenance of the facility
  • Train and supervise of local and international volunteers
  • Mentor seabird interns
  • Present talks on seabird rehabilitation topics

Requirements:

  • A tertiary qualification in Biological Science, wildlife or conservation preferred
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with seabirds advantageous
  • Experience working according to standard operating procedures
  • Experience supervising small teams
  • A valid Driver’s licence
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office package)
  • Only open to South African ID holders
  • Be a team player that is physically fit, hardworking, dedicated, and able to manage time efficiently
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to work shifts and frequently in excess of standard working hours
  • Have a caring, compassionate nature with a love for seabirds
