The above position has become available in our Operations Department. The purpose of the role will be the determination of seed quality by means of analyzing samples with regard to defect determination, purity, germination, approved vigour tests and tetrazolium, as well as quality control on seed lots presented. The Seed Analyst must also be able to support the Laboratory Manager/Supervisor in their duties and stand in for the Laboratory Manager/Supervisor in their absence.

Job Summary:
•Obtaining working sample for purity testing
•Conducting purity testing
•Conducting weight determination
•Calculating of purity results
•Capturing purity results on LIMS
•Conducting seedling evaluation for germination testing
•Calculating germination percentage
•Identify the best method to be used for germination testing
•Quality assurance of equipment in the lab

Requirements:
Qualifications:
• Matric-National Senior Certificate- Grade 12 (Essential)
NQF L4 – School/College/Training Certificates (Essential)
•Diploma in Agriculture
NQF L6 – First Degrees / Higher Diplomas

Training:
•Basic Computer Skills (Essential)
•Seed Science Course (Essential)

•In-house sampling course
•In-house grading training
•In-house quality training
•Must show technical competence in:
4 number rule;
calculation rounding;
no errors on seedling evaluations;
no errors on purity analyses;
must be able to work accurately without supervision

Seed Analysis – (Essential):
•Exams in practical seed analysis (agronomy, horticulture & grasses)
•DAFF’s OSTL – 0 year (Essential)
Training to comply with DAFF’s OSTL registration
i.Seed Science Course
ii.Exams in practical seed analysis at OSTL
