Streetlight Schools aims to change the conversation around education globally by running inspiring, affordable schools in disadvantaged communities. The Organisation launched our flagship school, Streetlight Jeppe Park Primary, in inner-city Johannesburg in January 2016. Since then Streetlight Schools have developed a strong school culture for learners to help them feel safe, healthy, happy, and loved.
Job Title: Communications Manager
Job Location: Johannesburg
Report to: CEO / COO
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a communications and reporting strategy for Streetlight Schools
- Ensure effective communications, visibility and knowledge management between Streetlight Schools and its stakeholders, including and especially institutional funders and individual donors and champions
- Maintain reliable data of funders, sponsors, and our internal and external audience by documenting, analysing and using appropriate communications channels for each
- Develop communications material for Streetlight Schools’ programmes, events and projects
- Provide thorough progress reporting of achievements; facilitate project review, evaluation, and audits
- Develop and manage a consistent communication and reporting schedule based on relevant timelines for all stakeholders (e.g quarterly newsletters, website updates, social media posts when required)
- Plan and lead creative events to support fundraising initiatives
- Support central team staff in organising and managing seminars, workshops, press conferences and site visits as required
Requirements:
- Relevant Degree / Diploma in related fields like PR, marketing, communications, journalism, or English
- Two to three years of experience in a related field, preferably in nonprofit organisations
- Familiarity and experience in Public Relations, communications and reporting
- Be familiar with or are passionate about fundraising for nonprofit causes in disadvantaged communities
- Experience in communication and reporting strategies and techniques, reporting, documentation, publication, and audio-visual material preparation in relation to conservation and development fields
- A track record of delivering astonishing results, and can prioritise and drive all activities toward increasing the funding available to pursue the organisational vision and mission
- Ability to expand organisational capacity by establishing routines and systems, creating operational efficiencies, and working with teammates and / or contractors
- Creative and can tell an organisation’s story through communication initiatives
- Writing, editing, and speaking skills in English
- Be well versed in the latest electronic publishing and graphics methods
- Computer literacy Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and G Suite)
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of motivation and good communication, social, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to adjust and keep to dates with the latest trends in communications and strive to always be a step ahead
- Ability to adjust to the constantly changing nature of your job in a growing organisation
