Job Title: Senior Manager: National Business Development

Job Summary:
Leads and directs a team of Sales Representatives, Business Partners, and Business Relationship Managers to enhance face-to-face engagements that represent all our Business product lines in the market to identify and acquire business opportunities in the Short Term, Commercial, and Value Adding Products divisions.

Leadership and Direction:
Communicate the Business Development strategy and its relationship to the organization’s mission, vision and values; clarify the actions needed to implement it within the area of responsibility; motivate people to commit to these and to doing extraordinary things to achieve the organization’s business goals.

Functional Strategy Formation:
Develop tactical plans for optimizing resources and assets being managed to deliver on the Business Development Strategy to meet business growth requirements. Effectively align functional objectives to overall organizational / business objectives in order to meet profit targets.

Business Development:
Take responsibility for implementing the business development strategy for Personal lines, commercial lines and VAPS. Monitor and assess sales and market data for a specific geographic region and market segment, and produce reports that will assist in formulating strategy and identifying areas in the market where business can be developed.

Customer Relationship Development / Prospecting:
Develop and implement a relationship management plan for strategic, complex potential accounts to build key relationships at local and national levels. Coordinate the engagement of own organization with the customer organization to ensure effective two-way flow of information and resolution of issues largely in a face-to-face manner.

Customer Needs Clarification:
Consult with a range of customer representatives at different levels to identify the outcomes they require, introducing relevant internal specialists and utilizing their expertise to gather and analyze complex customer data, clarify mid- to long-term customer needs, and develop and agree to a specification of customer requirements.

Sell Customer Propositions:
Configure a complex product and services solution and associated contractual terms that meet the customer’s midto long-term needs, taking input from relevant internal specialists. Present the solution to customer representatives and negotiate agreement within a pre-defined range of commercial parameters. OR Review sales proposals from team members and authorize those that deviate from standard terms, escalating issues to senior management where appropriate.

Sales Opportunities Creation:
Develop a personal network of senior managers within the business sector and represent the organization at business sector events. Obtain market intelligence, promote the organization, and enhance its reputation.

Customer Relationship Management / Account Management:
Develop and implement relationship management plans for complex existing customer accounts to identify and build relationships with relevant decision makers and influencers within the customer organization and to enable effective two-way flow of information and resolution of issues. Manage ongoing relationships with identified customer segments to ensure their needs are met, providing themes, summary analyses, and recommendations for changes based on customer input.

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Data:
Oversee the implementation and maintenance of the customer relationship management system within the area of responsibility, identifying and communicating opportunities for system improvement that may enhance the management of customer relationships.

Operational Compliance:
Monitor and review performance and behaviors within area of responsibility to identify and resolve non-compliance with the organization’s policies and relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct.

Personal Capability Building:
Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation (CPD, Class of Business) where relevant to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an in-depth understanding of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.

Requirements:
General Education:
Matric/SAQA Accredited Equivalent (Essential)
Full FAIS accreditation (150 credits) (Essential)
RE 5 (Essential)
RE 1(Advantageous)

General Experience:
3-6 years industry and commercial experience
