The AIDS Foundation of South Africa (AFSA) is a well-respected non-governmental organisation that acts as an interface between donors and community-based organisations (CBOs) working in the HIV/AIDS sector by placing donor funds with strategically selected CBOs and providing them with ongoing management, technical support and capacity building.

Job Title: Sex Rights Africa Network Coordinator 
Job Location: Durban

Competitive salary packages will be negotiable in accordance with AFSA’s remuneration policies.

This is a fixed term period ending 31 March 2021

The purpose of the position is to engage and support of the Sex Rights Africa Network, to maximise the level of active and effective participation in efforts to advance SRHR in Eastern and Southern Africa and beyond.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the SRA Network ‘Who’s Who’ database and review and follow up all submissions to join the Network
  • Support Network members and visitors to the SRA website to engage in knowledge exchange, networking, joint advocacy and support of SRHR campaigns in Eastern and Southern Africa
  • Work with Web Content Moderator and Social Media Officer to respond to information and support needs of Network
  • Promote the resources and services of the website and Network to prospective users and members
  • Make links between existing regional / continental SRHR-relevant web-based knowledge sharing platforms and the SRA network
  • Represent the SRA Network in regional and national events
  • Identify key strategy, policy and research documents on HIV and SRHR linkages for upload to the SRA website
  • Support and monitor the submission and upload of resources by Network members
  • In consultation with the Web Content Moderator and Social Media Officer: Research, upload and promote the use of SRHR campaign relevant resources on the www.sexrightsafrica.net website
  • Contribute to programme design and content
  • Identify potential presenters/ resource people from the Network
  • Identify and liaise with potential participants from high-level institutions with SRHR mandates
  • In consultation with AFSA partners and SRAN members, identifying priority SRHR issues for the Network to a) support existing advocacy campaigns; and b) conduct advocacy campaigns
  • Source / draft content for briefing documents (factsheets) on priority SRHR issues to support CSOs and duty bearers to advocate for changes / implementation in policy and programming
  • Arrange design and dissemination of these publications

Requirements:

  • A Graduate Degree in related area including Marketing, Public Health, Social Science or related field
  • A post graduate degree will be preferable
  • Minimum of three years’ marketing experience
  • Minimum of two years’ consumer / community internet experience
  • Track record in member engagement
  • Experience in online network development
  • Knowledge of website development
  • Strong understanding of issues of SRHR issues in Eastern and Southern Africa
  • Research and communication skills
  • Communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to work both unsupervised and as part of a team
  • Competence in Portuguese or Swahili will be an advantage
