The AIDS Foundation of South Africa (AFSA) is a Durban-based NGO that acts as an interface between Donors and Community Based Organisations (CBO’s) working in the HIV/AIDS sector, by placing donor funds with strategically selected CBOs, in South Africa, and providing them with ongoing, technical support & capacity building.

AFSA has been selected to be appointed by the Global Fund (GF) as one of the Principal Recipients (PRs) that will manage programmes to be funded by the grant. AFSA wishes to appoint suitably qualified individuals to serve in positions specified below & based at the AFSA’s head office in Durban:

 

 

Job Title: Project officer
Location: South Africa
Remuneration: R33,231 per month, TCTC, gross

Purpose of job:

To oversee implementation of community-based COVID-19 prevention project, within a larger HIV, TB & GBV prevention programme among adolescent and young women, in eight provinces of South Africa.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support sub-district level and implementation teams, and implementing partner organisations (in various provinces), on a weekly daily basis, with understanding project priorities and activities.
  • Conducting work planning activities, develop plans and monitor timelines.
  • Draft implementation SOPs
  • Ensure the implementation of Site Quality Assessments of all sites and introduce strategies for improvements.
  • Ensure seamless induction /orientation and training of all sub-district teams.
  • Ensure implementing organisations meet project targets.
  • Document success stories, lessons learnt, project experiences, achievements and processes.
  • Oversee procurement and distribution of PPE to project partners: various schools, SASSA points, clinics and implementing organisations.
  • Check partner reports and compile weekly, monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Work closely with all teams to develop systems that enhance site support and ensure adherence to internal protocols, standards and policies.

Required qualifications, skills & experience:

  • Relevant University Degree is required.
  • Relevant post-graduate qualification is highly desirable.
  • Extensive information gathering and report writing skills are essential.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience.
  • Knowledgeable on OVC /AGYW programmes and district health system.
  • Willingness and ability to travel across the country for quality audits, and support.
  • Advanced Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
  • High-level communications skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to consult, take initiative, multi-task & coordinate multiple priorities.
  • Clear and thoughtful communication-, listening- and social skills are essential.
  • Exceptional organisational and admin skills.
  • Comfortable working independently and reporting on activities to supervisor as well as broader consortium stakeholders, on regular basis.
  • Valid driver’s licence (code B, issued 2 years ago or earlier) & willingness to drive (recommended).
